Job description
We’re looking for an experienced Applications Engineer who can take complex customer requirements and turn them into practical, manufacturable equipment solutions. This is a technical, customer-facing engineering role supporting custom industrial equipment from the quoting and concept stage through proposal development.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Develop equipment concepts for custom thermal processing and industrial cleaning systems.
- Create conceptual layouts and designs using 2D and 3D CAD, including AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
- Build detailed estimates, technical proposals, equipment layouts, and bid packages.
- Work directly with customers and sales to clarify requirements and recommend technical solutions.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing to make sure proposed equipment can actually be built and delivered.
- Review specifications for exceptions, technical risks, and commercial requirements.
- Help mentor and support less-experienced Applications and Design Engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
- Roughly 5-10 years of engineering experience involving custom equipment, industrial machinery, estimating, or applications engineering.
- Experience working with 2D/3D CAD software.
- Understanding of industrial electrical controls, including PLCs and HMIs.
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid flow.
- Experience reading customer specifications and developing quotes, estimates, proposals, or bid packages.
- Strong communication skills-you’ll need to explain technical concepts to both customers and internal teams.
Strong Plus:
- Experience with engineered-to-order industrial equipment.
- Background with ovens, furnaces, thermal processing systems, washers, process equipment, or similar machinery.
- AutoCAD and Inventor experience.
- Experience working within an ERP/MRP system.
This is primarily an engineering office role, but you’ll periodically spend time on the manufacturing floor working with the teams building the equipment you helped develop. The engineering group includes both experienced engineers and newer team members, so there’s a strong emphasis on collaboration, technical problem-solving, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
