Job description
The State of Minnesota (MNIT), in partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), is seeking an experienced Azure Database Architect to support the modernization of the Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS). This role will lead the architecture, design, implementation, and support of Azure Databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse solutions while consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure platform. The ideal candidate will also mentor architects and database engineers while driving secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud data solutions., * Design and implement enterprise Azure database, Data Lake, and Data Lakehouse solutions.
- Support modernization of the State’s CCWIS data platform.
- Develop enterprise data models and optimize data access patterns.
- Design secure, scalable, and reliable cloud database architectures.
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Ensure compliance with data security standards, RBAC, and encryption best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize data workflows and cloud infrastructure.
- Recommend enterprise data platforms, tools, and architecture standards.
- Maintain technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer.

Requirements
- Strong experience designing, developing, and implementing Azure Data Lakes and relational/non-relational databases
- Strong experience with Azure Databricks
- Strong experience with Oracle Databases
- Experience developing data transformation solutions and cloud infrastructure integrations
- Experience coding and testing data load programs using Azure data load utilities
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, Azure Resource Manager, Azure CLI/PowerShell, SQL Analytics, and Query Performance Insight
- Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), encryption, and network security
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience mentoring architects and database engineers
Preferred Skills
- 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture or Data Management
- Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools
- Data Lakehouse architecture
- Data modeling, schema design, and indexing strategies
- Data Warehouse Administration
- Teradata Data Warehouse experience
