Job description

The Availability Engineering product suite has an opening for a Software Engineer on the Availability Assurance Technical Triage team. This team is responsible for proactively identifying potential availability issues, collaborating with support teams to diagnose and resolve problems, recommending recovery actions, and sharing knowledge with owning teams to improve the resiliency of their products. In this role, you will contribute to both availability assurance activities and software development efforts, including the design and enhancement of applications such as the Proactive Discovery Tool (PDT). The position offers opportunities to work across a broad range of technologies, participate in incident triage and root cause analysis, and help drive resiliency improvements across State Farm’s IT landscape. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend, frontend, and full-stack features for PDT and other Availability Assurance applications.
  • Design, implement, and support application modernization efforts, including migrating containerized workloads to cloud-native platforms such as ROSA/OpenShift.
  • Support applications throughout their lifecycle, from requirements and implementation through monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product partners, and quality teams to deliver reliable, user-focused solutions.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews and testing practices.
  • Improve the performance, scalability, reliability, and observability of existing services.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to long-term resiliency improvements.
  • Participate in technical triage efforts, including Availability Assurance Bridge activities.
  • Investigate application outages and service disruptions, identify root causes, and recommend recovery actions.
  • Partner with support and engineering teams to improve application and infrastructure resiliency.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, technical planning, and operational excellence initiatives. Qualifications, * Develops, tests, debugs, documents, maintains, and supports applications and components while completing assignments with guidance and direction.
  • Collaborates with business and technical partners to design and implement solutions that meet business needs.
  • Continues developing knowledge of software engineering, cloud platforms, security, DevOps, and State Farm technology environments.
  • Handles and resolves application and environment issues while building expertise in availability, resiliency, and operational excellence. Our Benefits

Requirements

Software Engineering

  • Experience developing and supporting software applications using JavaScript for frontend and backend development.
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, CI/CD, testing practices, containers, and secure coding principles.
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to learn and adapt solutions to align with enterprise architecture and technology standards related to modernization efforts.

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure platforms and security principles, including technologies such as ROSA, WAS, CaaS, AWS, Azure, Load Balancing, LDAP, and Proxy services.
  • Experience using monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Elasticsearch, and Grafana.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex application and infrastructure issues.

Professional Skills

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to identify issues and influence teams toward resilient solutions.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to balance software engineering responsibilities with operational and availability-focused work.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems, resiliency engineering, or site reliability practices.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of Linux, containers, cloud-native technologies, and enterprise application platforms.
  • Experience supporting production applications in a large-scale environment.

  • Potential starting salary range: $85,000 - $125,000

  • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
  • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
