Job description
Vicon Machinery, an established manufacturer of industrial metal-cutting and forming equipment, is seeking a strong C#/.NET developer to take primary technical responsibility for Vicon Cutting Software and its integration with Vicon machines. This specialized Windows desktop and machine-control role offers long-term product ownership beyond conventional web, mobile, or database application development.
Vicon software supports the complete manufacturing workflow used by HVAC fabricators: designing fittings and sheet-metal parts, working with two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometry, nesting parts for efficient material use, preparing jobs for production, communicating with cutting equipment, controlling machine movement, and exchanging production data with related applications. Previous HVAC fabrication experience is not required; Vicon will provide the industry and product training needed to understand these workflows.
If accepted, the candidate will join a small, experienced software team in which each developer has primary ownership of a major product area. The position offers substantial professional autonomy to investigate problems, propose solutions, organize projects, and select appropriate implementation approaches. That autonomy requires sound technical judgment, careful testing, clear communication, and responsibility for completed work.
The developer will see the direct results of their work, from a part designed on-screen to the machine’s movement and the production of a physical component. The role also includes direct communication with customers, service personnel, and manufacturing staff to understand requirements, diagnose complex software or equipment-related issues, and improve the product based on actual use. This is advanced technical problem-solving, not routine call-center support.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, maintain, and support Vicon Cutting Software using C# and .NET.
- Develop and maintain Windows desktop user interfaces and supporting application services.
- Learn Vicon machine operation, motion-control systems, and software-to-hardware communication.
- Read, debug, and modify established C#, VB.NET, WPF, and .NET Framework applications when required.
- Investigate issues involving application logic, geometry, nesting, databases, file formats, communications, hardware configuration, or machine behavior.
- Maintain integrations with related Vicon applications and third-party job-data systems.
- Participate in planning, code review, testing, builds, installation packages, releases, diagnostics, and technical documentation.
- Work directly with customers and internal personnel to resolve difficult technical problems and identify product improvements.
- Collaborate with other developers while maintaining primary responsibility for the cutting software and machine-control product area.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience or demonstrated ability in C#, VB.NET, and .NET development.
- Experience developing Windows desktop applications using WPF, Windows Forms, or comparable technologies.
- Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming, debugging, and maintainable software design.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational-database fundamentals.
- Experience with Visual Studio and source control, preferably Git.
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and improve an established production codebase.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively in a small team.
- Clear technical communication with both technical and nontechnical users.
- Interest in and aptitude for learning industrial machinery, physical equipment, and motion control.
Previous motion-control experience is not required. Vicon will train a strong .NET developer who demonstrates the aptitude and interest to learn it. The position provides opportunities to broaden technical expertise in traditional software development, industrial software, machine control, and related manufacturing systems. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with industrial automation, CNC equipment, robotics, PLCs, CAD, computational geometry, serial communications, SQL Server, Azure DevOps, automated builds, MSI deployment, automated testing, or manufacturing software is beneficial but not mandatory., * Web Forms: 1 year (Preferred)
