Job description
We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to design, implement, maintain, secure, and optimize Client database environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Windows Server, High Availability/Always On, database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database security.
The role will work closely with application, infrastructure, network, and systems teams to ensure database availability, performance, security, and compliance across Client environments., * Design, install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance databases.
- Perform database migrations, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning.
- Implement and maintain High Availability solutions, including SQL Server Always On.
- Develop and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database, operating system, storage, and performance issues.
- Optimize SQL queries, database configurations, and overall database performance.
- Implement database security, access controls, and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on server patching and maintenance activities.
- Support application development teams with database design, data modeling, and integration requirements.
- Develop automation and scripting solutions for database administration and maintenance.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Evaluate new database technologies and provide recommendations for future Client environments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior database staff.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting.
- Strong experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage Accounts, and Azure security fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience implementing SQL Server Always On / High Availability.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and database infrastructure.
- Strong SQL skills, including query optimization and performance tuning.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, security, and disaster recovery.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with scripting and automation; Python is preferred.
- Experience supporting Windows, Linux/UNIX, Oracle, and MS-SQL database environments is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Microsoft SQL Server/Azure certifications.
- Experience in large-scale enterprise database environments.
- Experience developing database automation using shell scripting or programming languages.
- Experience providing technical direction and mentoring to junior database administrators.
