Job description

The Assistant Director of Data Systems and Solutions will oversee the organization’s core data systems and processes, including Salesforce, Azure SQL databases, data integrations, reporting infrastructure, and emerging technology initiatives. This role will serve as the organization’s lead Salesforce Administrator and will partner with program and operational teams to ensure systems effectively support service delivery, reporting, and decision-making.

The Assistant Director will help translate business and program needs into practical technology solutions, manage system enhancements, support data quality initiatives, and coordinate technical projects across departments. They will also provide support and guidance for related systems used throughout the organization, including school information systems, electronic medical records, and other program-specific platforms. Working closely with staff and stakeholders, the Assistant Director will help improve workflows, implement technology solutions, and strengthen user adoption and systems utilization.

The Assistant Director will supervise the Data Services Manager, coordinate the work of external consultants and vendors, and contribute to the organization’s technology and data strategy. This role will serve as a key resource on data systems, reporting, automation, and AI-related initiatives, helping advance operational efficiency, continuous quality improvement, and data-informed decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

Systems Administration

Manage and coach staff responsible for building, maintaining, and improving program data systems. Directly supervise Data Services Manager.

Serve as the organization’s lead Salesforce Administrator, responsible for system configuration, security, user management, workflow automation, data quality, and platform optimization.

Serve as technical project manager for core data systems by maintaining roadmaps, gathering and prioritizing requirements, defining user stories, coordinating releases, and ensuring solutions meet program and organizational needs.

Serve as lead for solutions architecture, systems design, and implementation planning for data systems, including Salesforce, SQL databases, data integrations, eClinicalWorks, and related platforms.

Partner with program leaders to understand service delivery needs, identify workflow and system improvements, and translate ideas or pain points into actionable technology solutions.

Manage external consultants and vendors for complex or special projects, including scopes of work, timelines, deliverables, quality assurance, and knowledge transfer to internal staff.

Oversee core systems administration, troubleshooting, documentation, data governance, SQL Database improvements, and responsible AI initiatives in alignment with organizational values, privacy expectations, and service quality goals.

Reporting and Support

Integrate data across platforms, including SQL Databases and internal data systems; work with external consultants.

Build and generate ad-hoc reports for programs and administration; Perform SQL queries for cross-programmatic reporting.

Aid the reporting team in the development of reports and dashboards for programmatic decision making.

Work with staff at all levels to support the effective use and adoption of technology solutions through training, documentation, and ongoing user support.

Other functions and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.

At least three years of demonstrated experience managing or leading enterprise data systems, CRM platforms, databases, or related technology products.

Minimum one year of experience supervising staff.

Salesforce Administrator, Business Analyst, or related certification.

Experience with Azure, Microsoft SQL Server, data warehouses and data lakes, ETL processes, and/or API integrations.

Excellent communication skills and experience serving in a product owner, business analyst, systems lead, or comparable role that requires translating business needs into technical requirements.

Strong working knowledge of Salesforce administration, configuration, reporting, user permissions, data models, and workflow automation.

Ability to understand and guide technical development, including database design, SQL, integrations, automation, data quality processes, and technical troubleshooting.

Experience managing consultants, vendors, or cross-functional technical project teams, including scopes of work, timelines, deliverables, and quality assurance.

Experience partnering directly with program teams or operational leaders to assess needs, improve workflows, support implementation, and strengthen adoption of technology or data systems.

Experience supporting data privacy, data governance, documentation, and responsible use of data and technology.

Experience creating training materials, technical documentation, data dictionaries, workflows, and governance procedures.

Recommended Requirements

Experience with AI-enabled tools, automation, predictive analytics, natural language tools, or responsible AI implementation in a nonprofit, education, health, human services, or public-sector setting.

Experience building or supporting dashboards, reporting tools, performance management systems, or program evaluation infrastructure.

Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, technical project management, or change management practices.

Experience facilitating cross-functional planning sessions, program design discussions, implementation workgroups, or communities of practice related to data, technology, AI, or service delivery improvement.

Experience working in youth development, workforce development, education, health, legal services, housing, or other direct-service environments.
