Job description

Emery Reddy, PC is a fast-paced litigation firm distinguished by its advocacy on behalf of workers and plaintiffs in employment law, workers’ compensation, data privacy and related civil litigation. We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Legal Assistant to support our, California-based, data privacy team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all case activity is handled with accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Federal and State court filing processes, electronic document management, and legal calendaring. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes ownership of details, maintains excellent internal communication, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, file, and serve legal documents in both state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with court rules and firm protocols.
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized digital case files in Clio, in accordance with firm standards; save all court filings, correspondence, and relevant documents promptly.
  • Docket deadlines, hearing dates, and other key litigation milestones; monitor and update deadlines as needed to ensure nothing is missed.
  • Track court orders as they are issued; save and circulate them to the team; follow up to locate outstanding orders and provide attorneys with needed documents.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for internal case updates; notify attorneys and staff of critical developments and ensure alignment across the team.
  • Coordinate and document the service process for pleadings and other legal documents.
  • Draft and format standard legal correspondence and assist with document assembly for hearings and filings.
  • Perform scanning, naming, organizing, and archiving legal documents with a high degree of accuracy.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of law firm experience required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, litigation procedures, and state court systems.
  • Experience filing in Federal and state courts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software (preferably Clio).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
