Job description

About the team:

The International Store Operations team is a globally focused engineering group within Walmart International Tech, dedicated to building and scaling technology platforms that support store operations worldwide. The team develops and maintains critical solutions for inventory management, workforce operations, and digital experiences across multiple countries, each with unique regulatory and market requirements. Engineers collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, cloud-native systems that integrate physical and digital retail. This team addresses complex challenges at scale, ensuring seamless operations for thousands of stores and influencing the experience of millions of customers globally.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered software systems and intelligent automation solutions.
  • Translate domain strategies into system-level implementations, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence.
  • Champion engineering and operations excellence practices to maintain resilient, observable, and performant services.
  • Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and drive strategic architectural decisions across teams.
  • Mentor engineers to foster continuous learning and uphold high standards in design and delivery.
  • Drive system optimization by diagnosing system constraints, automating workflows, and providing actionable recommendations that accelerate engineering velocity.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical solutions with business objectives and customer needs.

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive expertise leading platform engineering initiatives and building scalable cloud-native systems with AI integration.
  • Strong technical leadership in architecture decisions and system execution.
  • Skilled in AI/ML integration, SDLC, and CI/CD, driving engineering and operations excellence.
  • Mentors and develops engineers, promoting continuous learning and high standards.
  • Collaborates across teams and communicates clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translates business needs into technical solutions.
  • Agile problem-solver adapting to evolving technologies and business needs.
  • Delivers reliable, maintainable, extensible software aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Expert in distributed, microservice, event-driven architectures; Java, Spring Boot; Kafka and NoSQL.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of accessibility best practices and join us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

It will meet or exceed the requirements of paid sick leave laws, where applicable., The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
