Job description
The Data Engineer is responsible for analysis, design, development, maintenance and support for various data applications to enable business and advanced analytics in a retail domain environment. The Data Engineer also supports integrations between enterprise applications, helping to ensure that Claire’s data is accurately and regularly accessible across the organization. Between these responsibilities, the Data Engineer is a highly visible role with significant interactions across IT, third-party vendors, and other business stakeholders., * Ability to architect, build, and support a comprehensive data platform that spans a data lake, data warehouse, ETL capabilities, and medallion views to support data analytics functions
- Utilize emergent tools and capabilities in current data warehouses, particularly regarding to AI functions, intra-application integrations and pipelines, and application development toolkits
- Leverage data quality prototypes and mappings to operationalize as production jobs
- Work with technical leads, architects, subject matter experts, developers, vendor teams, technical support groups and test teams to deliver value to the business
- Develop simple applications to support targeted enterprise functions, with the goal of developing end-to-end infrastructure to replace manual recurrent processes
- Design, prototype, develop, test cases, and document ETL components
- Ability to convert legacy systems to modern applications and platforms
- Recommend new applications to Claire’s that could produce measurably better results, particularly tools that democratize access and ability, save labor, or increase insight
- Perform unit testing of ETL components and document test results
- Support all testing, including Development Integration Testing, System Testing, User Acceptance Testing, End-to-End Testing and Performance Testing
- Support the ongoing operation of data applications and scheduled jobs
- Provide timely response and resolution of emergency production questions, issues and defects
- Maintain and monitor job schedules
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field required or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years’ experience in implementing and supporting based ETL tools and technologies
- Experience with building system integrations using either low-code tools (Flowgear, Zapier, etc.) or with using high-code customized integrations
- Familiarity with functions in enterprise data warehouses including Snowflake, SQL Server, BigQuery, and other contemporary environments
- Proficiency in using AI to accelerate code development for application and ETL development
- Expert ability with complex SQL and relational databases
- Expert ability in Python with the ability to build programs and applications
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure environments, including Azure Data Lake and Azure Data Factor
- Net programming experience (VB.Net or C#) and familiarity with Oracle Retail Platform is a plus
- Experience with version control software
- Excellent written and verbal communication required
- Experience writing process flows and requirements documents.
- Experience in researching and interpreting data, with a solid understanding of relational database concepts and table design

All positions will be compensated at or above the legally mandated minimum wage for the location in which work is performed. The final compensation will be determined by various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
