Job description

The Network Engineer I assists higher level network administrators in the administration, maintenance, and operation of the organization’s networks. Adheres to Air Methods policies and procedures as required to maintain regulatory and operational compliance. Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide support and troubleshooting of routing and switching enterprise technologies in complex networking environments. Troubleshooting includes WAN routing (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, FHRP, multi-layer overlay networking, etc.), LAN switching (VLANs, layer 3 switching, EoMPLS, trunking, port-channeling), VoIP (WAN usage, QoS, PSTN, H.323, SIP).
  • Assist in the administration of security technologies such as firewalling, multi-layer VPN technologies, IPS, ACLs, and best practices adhering to regulations (HIPAA, SOX, PCI, CALEA etc.).
  • With direction from the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, configures, manages and maintains Air Methods files servers, storage, backup, and virtual environment to ensure maximum availability.
  • Maintains and supports systems in a 24x7, large, distributed and mission-critical environment including in-house and commercial data center(s) and for helicopter EMS bases around the U.S.
  • Monitors the health of the company’s servers, virus protection, backup’s, and Data Centers.
  • Participates in projects to deploy new technologies or upgrade existing infrastructure.
  • Provides administration and escalated technical support for existing technologies, working with outside support services as required.
  • Documents systems meticulously and follows change management processes.
  • Participates in the establishment of policies, procedures, and training plans for network resource administration and disaster recovery.
  • Interfaces with vendors and consultants to coordinate the delivery of products and services.
  • Escalates problems and issues to Infrastructure Engineering Manager or other company leadership as needed.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

  • Large scale Citrix XenApp farm experience preferred
  • EMC CLARiiON CX4/CX3 SAN management experience preferred
  • Data Domain, Avamar, recover point, dedup technologies experience preferred

Skills

  • Self-motivated individual who meets deadlines and strives to exceed expectations
  • Working knowledge of regulations related to HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) relative to information security and assurance
  • Curiosity and desire to learn, with the ability to create and maintain positive professional relationships to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including a 24/7 on-call schedule.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Microsoft server background required including Windows, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, OCS
  • Windows System Administration (Windows 2008/2012)
  • VMWare (All latest versions)
  • Cisco UCS
  • Windows Desktop build & administration
  • IP protocol and stack
  • DHCP & DNS
  • Active Directory administration including GPO’s

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • MCSE certification preferred (or MCSA and/or MTA leading to MCSE)
  • VCAP/VCP certification a plus
  • CCEA or CCAA certification a plus
