Job description

  • Focus on strategic planning, implementation, and maintenance of network facilities across multiple enclaves, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
  • The Network Engineer is responsible for analyzing all elements of network infrastructure, proactively identifying areas for improvement and expansion.
  • A key focus is on providing technical planning and analysis for communication activities, leading the design, integration, and implementation of new network solutions, including those utilizing Software Defined Networking (SDN) and other advanced networking concepts .
  • This includes the strategic planning and deployment of network upgrades, the careful integration of new technologies, and ensuring seamless transitions during installations.
  • The engineer will actively participate in troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues, as well as performing proactive monitoring, testing, and reporting to maintain network stability.
  • The position also encompasses managing the provisioning, operations, and emergency response for ongoing VOIP network operations, along with overseeing and managing the deployment of upgrades to voice, video, and related systems in a multi- location environment, while ensuring all operational and support documentation remains current and up-to-date.
  • Continuous improvement of relevant systems, applications, infrastructure, and processes is a core responsibility, requiring the engineer to maintain a current understanding of emerging technologies and trends in cloud services, online media, storage solutions, and other data center technologies, with a focus on how these trends impact network architecture and security, particularly within SDN environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly complex and progressive experience in computer system/network engineering.
  • Includes two (2) years of specialized experience related to the assigned task.
  • Expert level configuration of Cisco routers and switches including but not limited to the following models: 4500, 6500, 3750, 3850, ASR 1000, Cisco Nexus platforms 7k, 9k.
  • Expert level knowledge with DMVPN, CISCO AnyConnect, GRE tunnels, IPSECv2, and ISAKMPv2.
  • Expert knowledge of network performance metrics, packet capture and analysis, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with TACLANEs, SolarWinds, IPAM, Kiwi Syslog Server, DHCP, ISE, ACI, NSX, TACACS, RADIUS, MAB, 802.1x, Event Manager Applet, Macro Creation, TFTP, SFTP, Splunk, Microsoft Visio, and Cisco Firewall Management Center.
  • Experience with SD-WAN, preferably migration from MPLS to SD-WAN.
  • Write procedural documents and test solutions.
  • Experience with and ability to understand, distill and document solution requirements.
  • Experience performing system administration duties on Cisco and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, wireless, SAN problems using various types of tools and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are important.
  • Active CCIE certification (Route/Switch) is desirable.
  • ISE, Prime, ACI, NSX or other SDN solutions.
  • Experience with SD-WAN, preferably migration from MPLS to SD-WAN.
  • Write procedural documents and test solutions.
  • Experience with and ability to understand, distill and document solution requirements.
  • Experience performing system administration duties on Cisco and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, wireless, SAN problems using various types of tools and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are important.
  • Active CCIE certification (Route/Switch) is desirable.
  • Must obtain and maintain the requisite baseline and technical certificates necessary to provide L1 level of support for Network Operations.
  • This position requires the person(s) to be eligible and adjudicated to TS/SCI clearance level at contract start.
