Job description

Wright Electric is hiring a Systems Test Engineer to own engineering test across our power-electronics and control systems for motor and generator applications. This is a hands-on, mid-level role: you’ll take ownership of testing at the assembly and sub-assembly level, design and build the fixtures and rigs that make it possible, lead test activities both internal and external, and drive failure cases and customer returns to resolution. You’ll be the person who turns designs into validated, trustworthy hardware.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing, and with third-party test partners, supporting failure-mode analysis and risk mitigation on programs that serve both defense and commercial customers.

What You’ll Own

  • Test ownership - Take ownership of all engineering tests at the assembly and sub-assembly level.
  • Test documentation - Manage all documentation related to engineering tests.
  • Failure & return tracking - Track all engineering test failure cases and customer returns to resolution.
  • FMEA & risk - Support multidisciplinary teams in failure-mode analysis and risk mitigation.

Tasks and Day to Day

  • Review customer requirements with cross-functional teams.
  • Support product specification design.
  • Provide engineering test requirement documents.
  • Provide engineering test plans.
  • Design, build, and validate all required test fixtures, testers, and test rigs.
  • Work with third parties on any external test activities.
  • Lead all engineering test activities, both internal and external.
  • Manage all test-related documentation, including test reports, failure-analysis reports, issue tracking, and failed-unit tracking.

Requirements

Required

  • 4+ years of professional electrical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with prototype and product development.
  • Experience supporting testing and test-plan development.
  • Experience identifying and sourcing components to realize a design.
  • Ability to work with and engage team members across departments.
  • Capable of owning tasks from beginning to end.

Preferred

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with motors, drives, and power electronics.
  • Experience with aircraft and aerospace systems.
  • Experience with generators and micro-grids.
  • Experience with embedded firmware development.
  • Experience with MATLAB & Simulink (Simscape Electrical, Embedded Coder, etc.).
  • Experience with CAN bus development., * How many years of relevant experience do you have?

About the company

Wright Electric builds power systems behind the future of aerospace and defense - from 30 kW expeditionary generators to multi-megawatt airborne propulsion. Our work spans electric motors, next-generation batteries, power electronics, and complete power systems like DenseGen and Dynamo, all engineered for a step-change in power and energy density. Since 2016, we’ve earned the trust of some of the most demanding customers in the world, including AFSOC, the USMC, PACAF, USTRANSCOM, NASA, ARPA-E, the FAA, and U.S. Air Force programs. It’s genuinely cutting-edge work.

We also move fast. Wright is an all-hands, high-ownership environment where the pace is quick and the problems are hard. The people who thrive here are the ones who dig in and drive their work to the finish. At the same time, we know sustained great work depends on rest: we respect our team’s personal time and protect the boundaries that keep people sharp, healthy, and here for the long haul.
