Job description
Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to support one of the nation’s premier defense research organizations. The is seeking a computer engineer to assist in developing and operating a network emulation testbed that tests the performance of end-to-end software and hardware systems in a challenged environment. The ideal candidate will have strong computer networking, Linux, and software programming skills that are backed up through experience, education, and/or certification. As a member of the testbed team, the engineer will be responsible for debugging problems with the testbed, proposing solutions, and implementing fixes. Strong communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and the self-motivated curiosity to dive into the details of system behavior are necessary for the position. The engineer will be responsible for assisting the technical staff in preparing reports for government officials and senior stakeholders on experimental findings. The position requires
Requirements
Clearance Level - Must have an Active Secret Clearance to be considered for this position - Must be US Citizen, * Currently holds a Secret Clearance (OR a higher clearance)
- 5 years - Data Analysis
- 5 years - Plot data and provide visualization
- 5 years - Experience working in a classified environment
- 10 years - Linux command line
- 10 years - Network emulation especially CORE
- 10 years - Networking Skills (Wireshark, TCP dump, SS)
- 10 years - Network protocol experience (TCP/IP)
- 10 years - Troubleshooting skills
- 10 years - Software development languages (python, golang, or C++)
- 10 years - Software architecture / design
- 10 years - Software design / test procedure documentation
Nice to Have
- Networking Certs (Network+, Security+, CCNA, etc.)
- Metric collection (Prometheus) and visualization (Grafana)
- J-series messaging or OMS/UCI
- Familiarity with AI assisted development tools
- Experience with HAIPE devices
- Container Technologies (PODMAN, Docker or Kubernetes)
- Radio or wireless system knowledge
- Automated testing frameworks
- Test and Integration Experience

Benefits & conditions
PTO - 15 days (vacation/sick) 10 paid holidays - 6 standard (New Year’s, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) - 4 floating holidays prorated based on your day of hire:
- 1.5 paid days, or 12 hours, for approved volunteer work
- 1 week of paid maternity/paternity LOA after 1 year of Full-time employment
Tuition & Training Reimbursement- 5K annually for pre-approved, Eligible full-time team members who have completed a minimum ofsix (6) months of employment may apply for tuition reimbursement for approved, job-related courses taken through an accredited college or university. Team members must achieve a grade of “B” or better to qualify for reimbursement.Aquila will reimburse up to $5,000 per fiscal year for tuition expenses only. Expenses related to training programs, certifications, books, materials, meals, transportation, or other non-tuition costs are not eligible under the Tuition Reimbursement Program. All tuition reimbursement requests must be submitted to and approved by the team member’s Manager prior to course registration. Reimbursement will be issued upon successful course completion and submission of final grades and proof of payment.
