Job description

Come build community, explore your passions, and do your best work. The Windows Servicing Delivery (WSD) organization is responsible for delivering protected, productive, and predictable servicing experiences for Windows customers around the world. As security threats evolve and engineering systems become increasingly complex, WSD is investing in modern engineering platforms that improve the speed, quality, transparency, and reliability of security servicing across the Windows ecosystem.

The Experiences Platform (EXP) team transforms critical engineering workflows from isolated tools and point solutions into trusted, reusable platform capabilities that improve developer productivity, strengthen security outcomes, and enable consistent engineering practices at scale. Our mission is to help engineering teams make better decisions faster through trusted workflows, actionable insights, durable platform services, and responsible use of AI-powered experiences.

As a Software Engineer II, you will primarily focus on building next-generation AI and agentic solutions that transform how security servicing and engineering workflows are executed across Windows. You will design, implement, test, and operate intelligent agents, workflow orchestration services, knowledge retrieval capabilities, and AI-powered developer experiences that help engineering teams automate tasks, accelerate investigation and remediation activities, and make trusted decisions at scale. Working closely with experienced engineers and partners across engineering, validation, security, product management, and architects, you will develop production-grade AI systems, agent platforms, and supporting services that improve productivity, reliability, and security outcomes. You will contribute to the design and implementation of agent-driven experiences, participate in technical reviews, evaluate solution quality through data and telemetry, and continuously improve the effectiveness of the systems you own. This role offers hands-on experience building and scaling applied AI capabilities that directly influence the future of engineering productivity and security servicing within Windows.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

Agentic AI Solution Development

  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate AI-powered platform capabilities that support security servicing workflows across the engineering lifecycle, including intelligent agents, workflow orchestration services, knowledge retrieval systems, and developer productivity experiences.

AI Agent Engineering

  • Build and evolve agent-based solutions that help engineers investigate, assess, prioritize, and remediate engineering and security challenges through automation, contextual reasoning, and actionable recommendations.

Platform & Service Development

  • Develop reliable services, APIs, data pipelines, telemetry systems, and workflow integrations that enable scalable, observable, and maintainable AI-driven engineering experiences.

Intelligent Workflow Automation

  • Deliver features that automate engineering workflows spanning security intake, engineering assessment, remediation, validation, release readiness, and post-release learning while improving efficiency, consistency, and decision quality.

Applied AI & Responsible Engineering

  • Apply responsible AI engineering practices including evaluation frameworks, quality measurements, transparency controls, auditability, human oversight, and data governance to ensure trusted AI-assisted experiences.

Engineering Excellence

  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, testing, deployment, and live-site operations while continuously improving software quality, reliability, performance, and maintainability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with engineers, security teams, validation teams, product managers, architects, and stakeholders to understand business problems and deliver AI-powered solutions that provide measurable customer and engineering value.

Continuous Learning & Innovation

  • Stay current with advances in AI agents, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), workflow orchestration, and engineering productivity technologies, applying new capabilities where they can improve servicing outcomes and engineering effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience., * Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • OR Master’s Degree in a related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing AI-powered applications, agentic systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, large language model (LLM)-enabled workflows, or intelligent automation capabilities.
  • Experience building workflow orchestration systems, developer productivity tools, engineering platforms, knowledge retrieval services, or data-driven engineering solutions.
  • Experience integrating AI services, APIs, copilots, agents, model evaluation frameworks, vector search technologies, or semantic retrieval capabilities into production software.
  • Experience developing cloud-native services using Azure or similar cloud platforms, including observability, telemetry, deployment automation, and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience applying responsible AI principles, evaluation frameworks, governance controls, auditability requirements, or quality measurements for AI-enabled solutions.
  • Experience in security engineering, vulnerability response, software validation, release engineering, Windows servicing, or other operationally critical engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and passion for applied AI, engineering productivity, intelligent workflow automation, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications, services, APIs, agent-based solutions, workflow automation systems, or developer productivity tools.
  • Experience applying software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, debugging, source control, code reviews, automated testing, and production-quality development practices.
  • Experience building software solutions that consume data, integrate with services, process structured or unstructured information, or support intelligent decision-making workflows.
  • Experience working collaboratively with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver features from design through deployment while balancing quality, reliability, and customer value.
