Job description
As an Application Engineer at Ultimation Industries, you will serve as the technical lead during proposal and concept development for overhead conveyor projects, working across customers, sales engineering, project management, vendors, and internal engineering teams. You will develop layouts, perform chain pull and throughput calculations, build BOMs and cost estimates, and create the technical proposals and scope documentation that support accurate quotations and smooth project handoff - all using Daifuku and Jervis Webb product applications where Ultimation is the largest integrator in the U.S., * Develop conceptual designs for power and free conveyors, enclosed track conveyors, monorail systems, inverted conveyors, skid conveyors, and automotive assembly conveyors.
- Review customer specifications, plant layouts, process requirements, and operational constraints to define the right conveyor solution.
- Conduct site assessments, field measurements, and technical data collection as needed.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and material flow to determine appropriate conveyor routing and system design.
- Create AutoCAD layouts, equipment concepts, budgetary proposals, technical specifications, and scope documents.
- Perform chain pull calculations, load analysis, throughput studies, cycle time analysis, and conveyor routing studies.
- Support component selection, equipment sizing, and application feasibility reviews.
- Identify project risks, assumptions, exceptions, and technical clarifications during proposal development.
Proposal and Estimating Support
- Develop Bills of Material and estimate inputs for labor, equipment, purchased components, controls, installation, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with Daifuku, Jervis Webb, and other vendors for product information, pricing support, and technical clarification.
- Assist with customer-facing technical presentations and proposal packages.
- Support proposal accuracy, technical compliance, and margin protection throughout the proposal process.
- Participate in customer technical reviews and internal proposal review meetings.
- Support structured handoff to design engineering and project management after purchase order receipt.
Standardization and Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain standard layouts, modules, templates, calculations, and design guidelines to improve proposal speed and repeatability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance proposal quality and reduce engineering hours per proposal.
Requirements
Must Have:
- 3 to 7 years of conveyor, material handling, or industrial automation engineering experience.
- AutoCAD proficiency required for layout and concept development.
- Ability to develop layouts, BOMs, cost estimates, and technical scope documentation.
- Strong analytical skills for mechanical calculations, throughput analysis, and application feasibility reviews.
- Effective communicator across customers, vendors, sales, project management, and engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with overhead conveyor systems - power and free, enclosed track, monorail, or inverted conveyor applications.
- Familiarity with Daifuku and Jervis Webb products.
- SolidWorks or other 3D CAD experience in addition to AutoCAD.
- Background in automotive assembly conveyor applications or manufacturing process engineering.
