Job description

The Business Intelligence Analyst I supports reporting and analytics for Avalon programs by transforming data into actionable insights. This role is responsible for extracting, cleaning, and analyzing data, as well as delivering accurate and reliable reporting to both internal and external stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation are essential for success in this position.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon’s corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Business Intelligence Analyst I - Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to company, industry, and regulatory compliance standards, as well as data governance best practices
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries to support both ad hoc analysis and recurring reporting needs
  • Perform in-depth data analysis to identify trends, relationships, and key drivers of business outcomes
  • Manage workflows for impact reporting, including ticket tracking, issue classification, coordination, trackers, peer reviews, and JIRA uploads
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery and internal teams by analyzing data and delivering actionable recommendations for client deliverables
  • Manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain clear, thorough documentation of data sources, processes, and reporting logic

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytics, reporting, or data-focused role
  • Solid SQL Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in writing and troubleshooting SQL queries for reporting and analysis, including data extraction and filtering, joining multiple tables, performing aggregations (COUNT, SUM, AVG), applying conditional logic (CASE, IN, LIKE), handling NULL values, using subqueries, temporary tables or views, and maintaining moderately complex queries.
  • Advanced Excel Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting, including building pivot tables, using lookup functions (e.g., VLOOKUP), creating and managing structured tables, and integrating Excel outputs with dashboards or reporting workflows.
  • Ability to interpret complex datasets, identify trends and patterns, and translate findings into actionable business or client recommendations.
  • Demonstrated success in working with cross-functional teams to convey data insights clearly and ensure accuracy in client-facing reports and organizational workflows.

Business Intelligence Analyst I - Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the healthcare industry
  • Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools such as SSRS/PBIRS and Power BI Desktop
