Job description
- Design, develop, and implement high-quality, efficient database objects, including stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers using T-SQL.
- Participate in the database design process, including data modeling and normalization, ensuring adherence to best practices
- Performance and Optimization:
- Optimize and tune complex, high-volume T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexes to ensure optimal application performance.
- Identify and resolve database performance issues, including deadlocks, long-running queries, and poor execution plans.
- Data Integrity and Quality:
- Develop and implement solutions for data migration, replication, and synchronization.
- Ensure data integrity and security by implementing appropriate constraints, indexes, and user access controls.
- Collaboration and Maintenance:
- Collaborate with application development teams to understand data requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
- Conduct code reviews of database scripts and stored procedures written by other developers.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain technical documentation related to database design, code, and operational processes.
- Assist in the development process of Power BI Semantic Models to be used by Report Developers.
Requirements
The SQL Database Developer designs, develops, and maintains robust and efficient processes within SQL Server. This role involves creating and optimizing stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views, as well as developing ETL processes for data integration and warehousing. In addition to the primary database platform being SQL Server, this position will also assist in developing within the Snowflake database platform. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, be adept at performance tuning and query optimization, and have a solid understanding of database security and best practices to ensure data integrity and accessibility for various applications and reporting needs.
This role is a hybrid position with at least 3 days in-office., * Must have a high school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- Must have 8+ years of relevant industry work experience.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
To be successful in this role, a qualified candidate will be able to:
- Competently write secure and efficient T-SQL scripts.
- Proficiently develop ETL pipelines utilizing SSIS and PowerShell for data on Prem and in the Cloud.
- Thoroughly understand business logic requirements to fulfill the accurate results needed for making business decisions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of ETL pipelines.
- Optimize existing queries for improved performance through reduced I/O, decreased execution times, and streamlined logical processing.
- Mentor junior colleagues, fostering a culture of database best practices and knowledge sharing.
- Analyze complex, legacy ETL processes and offer solutions to improve efficiency and follow developmental best practices.
- Work effectively in Azure DevOps, utilizing User Stories, Source Control, and Documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Documentation skills for processes and procedures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, DevOps, and security teams.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
To excel in this role, a qualified candidate will:
- Possess extensive knowledge in SSRS, SSIS, and Power BI.
- Successfully manage competing priorities, focusing on impactful deliverables for stakeholders.
- Take ownership of processes and continually grow / adjust to an ever-changing set of requirements and timelines.
- Be self-motivating, actively seeking areas of improvement, and use an agile approach to bring about quality changes to improve stability and efficiency., * Climate controlled environment. Work under fluorescent lighting. Moderate noise levels. Possible noise and vibrations carried over from the shop.
