Job description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialising in Roku development to join the CNN Connected TV Engineering team. As a senior individual contributor, you will work with a high level of autonomy, take ownership of complex technical challenges and help shape the team’s technical direction. You will collaborate with Principal Engineers and Architects to define and implement the technology strategy, while providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers. You will bring curiosity, versatility and a collaborative approach to solving new problems in a fast-paced engineering environment., * Design, develop and maintain high-quality client-side features for CNN’s Roku streaming application.

  • Contribute to the technical strategy, architecture and engineering best practices for CNN’s Connected TV experiences.
  • Build scalable and reliable solutions that support the performance and continued success of CNN’s streaming platform.
  • Help guide decisions on development tools, technologies, test automation and CI/CD practices.
  • Write clear technical documentation, conduct code reviews and troubleshoot complex software issues.
  • Support the testing, deployment and release of production-quality Roku applications.
  • Partner with Product, Design and Delivery leaders to translate product initiatives into robust technical solutions.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with engineers, stakeholders and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing and releasing software products and services.
  • Proficiency in client-side scripting languages such as JavaScript or Python; experience with BrightScript and SceneGraph is also essential.
  • Expertise in version control with Git and GitHub, and familiarity with CI/CD pipeline technologies.
  • Experience developing for streaming devices like Roku, FireTV, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of coding best practices, unit testing, and maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
