Job description

Hands-on senior engineer to extend and integrate a mainframe-based annuity policy administration system with AWS. The engineer will participate in architecture discussions and implement solutions end to end, with the technical lead providing final design direction., * Develop and support applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL.

  • Build Python-based APIs, integrations, and automation on AWS.
  • Develop real-time and event-driven integrations supporting straight-through transaction processing.
  • Implement transaction validation, tracking, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, and monitoring.
  • Partner with a data specialist to build an Operational Data Store on AWS sourced primarily from DB2, with limited VSAM data.
  • Contribute to initial loads, near-real-time ingestion, transformations, validation, and data reconciliation.
  • Support testing, deployment, documentation, observability, and production troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL experience.
  • Strong Python development skills.
  • Strong AWS engineering experience with services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, and RDS/Aurora.
  • Experience building CICS webservice, REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
  • Strong AWS data-engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience developing and supporting business-critical mainframe systems.
  • Ability to understand complex legacy business logic and implement modern integrations end to end.

Preferred Skills

  • Vantage or similar mainframe-based annuity policy administration experience.
  • DB2-to-AWS or near-real-time data-integration experience.
  • Assembler experience.
  • Generative AI, RAG, or Amazon Bedrock experience.
