Job description

We are looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to build the Data Experience for Backstage Portal, our clients internal developer portal product used by organizations worldwide.

PLEASE NOTE: This role is REMOTE but you must work EST time zone

Data teams work across warehouses, transformation tools, workflow orchestrators, and source-control systems. The context needed to understand and operate their data is often split across those systems and disconnected from the software catalog where teams already collaborate. Data Experience brings that context into Portal, making datasets and data workflows easier to discover, understand, and manage. By making better use of systems customers have already connected and relating workflow activity to the data it affects, we can provide useful context earlier and help teams respond more quickly when something goes wrong.

You will work across the stack to turn complex data-platform capabilities into a coherent product experience. This includes building user-facing workflows in React and TypeScript, backend services and APIs in Node.js, and integrations that ingest metadata from customers’ data platforms. You will collaborate closely with product, design, customers, and other engineering teams to decide what to build and carry the work through delivery and operation.

What You’ll Do

  • Build end-to-end product experiences using TypeScript, React, and Node.js, connecting intuitive interfaces to reliable backend services and APIs.
  • Develop and evolve integrations with data warehouses, transformation tools, workflow orchestrators, and source-control systems so customers can see value early and progressively bring richer data context into Portal.
  • Create experiences that connect metadata, lineage, ownership, and workflow activity, helping customers understand the health of their data and the impact of failures without moving between several tools.
  • Work directly with customers and internal data practitioners to understand their workflows, test assumptions, and turn successful use cases into reusable product capabilities.
  • Own work throughout its lifecycle: discovery, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
  • Make thoughtful tradeoffs between near-term delivery and the scalability, reliability, and maintainability expected of an enterprise product.
  • Collaborate across Portal and our clients data platform teams, contributing to technical direction while helping create a consistent experience across the wider product., * You have experience building modern web applications with TypeScript and React and backend services or APIs with Node.js.

Requirements

  • You are comfortable working across frontend, backend, and integration boundaries, and you can make progress when the problem does not fit neatly within one layer of the stack.
  • You have worked with external APIs, asynchronous systems, or data integrations and understand how to design for imperfect inputs, changing schemas, and operational failure.
  • You understand data platform concepts such as metadata, lineage, transformation, orchestration, data quality, and governance.
  • You approach engineering as product development: you seek to understand the customer problem, test assumptions, and use what you learn to improve both the solution and the plan.
  • You exercise sound technical judgment, communicate your reasoning clearly, and remain open to feedback and new information.
  • You take ownership of the software you ship and care about testing, observability, maintainability, and the experience of customers who depend on it.
  • You collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, designers, customer-facing teams, and customers in a growing B2B product environment.
