Job description

The Design Engineer will be a critical part of our team, focused on developing and refining our lighting fixtures. This position requires a blend of creativity, mechanical engineering skills, and a deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and contribute to the sustainable growth of Allied Maker. The successful candidate will bring a hands-on approach to modeling, prototyping, and optimizing our products, ensuring they meet our high standards of design and functionality. Key Responsibilities

  • Model lighting fixture hardware and assemblies in Fusion 360, catering to diverse manufacturing processes including CNC Machining, Bending, Metal Spinning, Glass Blowing, Water-Jet Cutting, 3D Printing, and Woodturning.
  • Use the MarkForged X7 3D printer to develop jigs that streamline metal finishing, assembly, and fabrication processes.
  • Engage with a cross-functional team, applying lean manufacturing principles to refine and improve production workflows and outputs.
  • Operate under the guidance of the Senior Design Engineer to generate custom lighting designs and modifications that align with Allied Maker’s aesthetic and quality standards.
  • Aid the Engineering Team in managing product improvements, organizing parts for procurement, and maintaining accurate documentation within our ERP software.
  • Prototype new designs and engage in hands-on assembly to evaluate and enhance production efficiency.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, with at least 7 years of experience. Background in lighting design or a related industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, with a track record of applying these to improve processes and reduce waste.
  • Expertise in Fusion 360, with proficiency in Netsuite or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach, with the capacity to take ownership of projects and drive innovation.

Benefits & conditions

  • 401(k) with matching, health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and parental leave.
  • A dynamic work environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and growth. If you’re driven by design excellence and keen on contributing to a leading name in the lighting industry through innovative engineering and efficient manufacturing practices, Allied Maker is your next destination. Submit your resume, a compelling cover letter, and any relevant work samples that showcase your expertise in design engineering and lean manufacturing.
