Job description

Kforce has a client that is seeking a highly experienced remote LinuxONE Infrastructure Engineer to support and manage the enterprise LinuxONE environment across multiple physical data centers for one of our clients. Overview: The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise with Linux on zSystems/LinuxONE, Red Hat/OpenShift, IBM HMC, storage, networking, and enterprise infrastructure administration. The role may also require support during off-hours, maintenance windows, and critical production activities. This role will be 40 hours and is slated to until 12/31/2026. Further extension is a possibility. You will:

  • Support the entire LinuxONE estate across 4 physical locations
  • Manage and support 13 LinuxONE Emperor 5 systems
  • Deploy, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain LinuxONE infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership and consultative guidance for LinuxONE initiatives and migration solutions, * Administer and support LinuxONE infrastructure across multiple data centers
  • Perform Linux deployment, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting
  • Manage IBM HMC, LinuxONE systems, storage, and network connectivity
  • Analyze requirements and recommend infrastructure and migration solutions
  • Lead technical discussions with clients and internal teams
  • Develop technical documentation and presentations
  • Provide executive-level technical communication and consulting
  • Lead or support Linux migration and modernization initiatives
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and provide root-cause analysis
  • Collaborate with engineering/development teams when required
  • Provide technical leadership and assist with project planning and infrastructure sizing

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience deploying and/or administering Linux on zSystems or LinuxONE
  • 5+ years working with Red Hat, Canonical Ubuntu distributions
  • 5+ years of experience with Red Hat OpenShift
  • 5+ years of experience in client-facing communications, requirements analysis, technical documentation, presentations, and executive-level communication
  • 5+ years of strong problem determination, troubleshooting, and debugging experience
  • 5+ years administering Linux systems, including installation, maintenance, storage, and networking
  • Strong experience with Fiber Channel/SAN technologies
  • 5+ years of experience administering the IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC)
  • 5+ years of experience with Git, Ansible, Terraform

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert-level knowledge of Linux on zSystems/LinuxONE technologies
  • Experience architecting and implementing Linux migration solutions
  • Experience leading technical teams
  • Ability to communicate and present effectively to client executive management
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong project management capabilities
  • Experience collaborating with development organizations
  • Experience sizing and scoping enterprise infrastructure/services engagements
  • Experience with LinuxONE Emperor systems, particularly large-scale enterprise environments

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
