Job description

This contract role offers an opportunity for an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design and implementation of event-driven architecture for a strategic digital customer experience programme. You will define and deliver the architecture needed to provide real-time mobile app notifications for customers across savings and investment products, working across a mix of legacy and modern platforms in a hybrid work setting., * Lead the end-to-end solution architecture and high-level design for customer notification capabilities within a strategic digital customer experience programme.

  • Define event-driven architecture patterns to support real-time customer notifications for pensions, ISAs and other savings and investment products.
  • Assess existing legacy platforms and identify options to expose and consume change events in a secure and scalable way.
  • Design integration approaches that span internally developed systems and third-party or vendor platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, platform and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • Leverage existing messaging and streaming capabilities to support the publication and consumption of events across the technology estate.
  • Produce clear architecture artefacts, including high-level designs, design documentation and technical roadmaps to guide delivery teams.
  • Support architectural governance processes and ensure proposed solutions align with wider enterprise architecture principles and standards.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks, dependencies and constraints associated with modernising legacy platforms through event enablement.
  • Contribute to the introduction and adoption of event-driven patterns across a complex, evolving technology landscape., This is a hybrid role based in either Alderley Park or Glasgow, combining on-site collaboration with remote working. You will work within a large-scale enterprise environment that operates a mix of legacy systems and modern platforms, including messaging and event streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka or equivalent tools. The setting is structured and governance-focused, with defined architecture standards and processes, while still encouraging modern, event-driven and cloud-aligned approaches. Working hours follow standard business patterns, with cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, platform and business teams.

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating as a Solution Architect within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing Event-Driven Architectures (EDA/EBA).
  • Hands-on experience enabling event-based integration across legacy applications and platforms.
  • Knowledge of messaging, event streaming and asynchronous integration patterns.
  • experience working with Apache Kafka or equivalent event streaming technologies.
  • Solid understanding of integration architecture, APIs and distributed systems.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, tailoring communication to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated capability to bridge traditional transactional systems with modern streaming and integration technologies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • experience within Financial Services, Wealth Management, Pensions or Investments environments.
  • experience modernising legacy platforms through event enablement strategies.
  • Knowledge of customer-facing mobile applications and notification services.
  • experience working across both internally developed solutions and vendor-owned platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native and hybrid architecture environments.
  • Track record of helping organisations introduce event-driven capabilities into complex legacy estates.
