Job description

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering robust, deterministic embedded software across a range of platforms.

You will work closely with engineers across the wider organisation to define software architectures, develop interfaces and build highly reliable systems suitable for demanding and potentially safety-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define embedded software architectures in collaboration with the wider engineering team
  • Develop high-performance, deterministic and well-tested embedded software
  • Define interfaces between software components, including APIs and communications protocols
  • Develop and improve continuous integration, automated testing and software release infrastructure
  • Support the development of software towards formal accreditation and certification
  • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping through to deployment

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced embedded software engineer with strong technical foundations and a passion for solving complex engineering problems.

Essential Experience

  • Strong embedded C/C++ and/or Rust development skills
  • Experience developing software for safety-critical or highly regulated systems, such as aerospace, automotive, medical or similar environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • You must be able to gain a UK SC Clearance in order to undertake this role

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be highly advantageous:

  • Working within fast-paced R&D, scale-up or start-up environments
  • Bare-metal embedded development
  • RTOS environments such as NuttX, ThreadX, RTIC, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, VxWorks or INTEGRITY
  • Embedded Linux
  • STM32, Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ or similar platforms
  • Flight controllers or other aerospace control systems
  • Automated testing, CI/CD and software release infrastructure

About the company

Our client is a rapidly growing technology business developing advanced, high-performance systems for the aerospace and wider defence markets.
