Job description

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to help lead the development and integration of rugged, military-grade embedded computing systems and automated test equipment (ATE). This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career engineer who enjoys working at the system level—bringing together electrical, mechanical, software, and test disciplines to deliver reliable solutions for demanding defense applications.

In this role, you will serve as a key technical contributor throughout the engineering lifecycle, translating customer needs into executable requirements, coordinating multidisciplinary design efforts, managing system interfaces, and ensuring individual subsystems come together as a cohesive, mission-ready product. You will also have the opportunity to support the modernization and reverse engineering of legacy military systems where form, fit, function, reliability, and long-term sustainment are critical. Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate system-level architecture, design, development, and integration activities for embedded computing systems and automated test equipment.
  • Translate customer and program requirements into clear, actionable system and engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate technical activities across electrical, mechanical, software, test, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Define and maintain system architecture, subsystem interfaces, technical requirements, and overall design baselines.
  • Lead and participate in system design reviews, requirements reviews, technical risk assessments, and engineering planning activities.
  • Evaluate subsystem designs to ensure successful integration and compliance with system-level functional, performance, interface, and environmental requirements.
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex multidisciplinary technical issues.
  • Support reverse-engineering, redesign, and modernization efforts for legacy military systems while maintaining required form, fit, and function.
  • Develop and maintain system-level engineering documentation, interface definitions, requirements traceability, and configuration-controlled technical data.
  • Collaborate with program managers and engineering leads to ensure technical solutions support program scope, schedule, cost, and performance objectives.
  • Identify technical risks early in the development lifecycle and coordinate appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Promote disciplined engineering practices and a collaborative environment focused on delivering reliable, high-quality products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, including system-level engineering, development, or integration responsibilities.
  • Experience supporting embedded systems, rugged electronics, aerospace, defense, or similarly complex engineered products.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, multidisciplinary design, system architecture, interfaces, and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer or program requirements into actionable technical requirements, specifications, and engineering plans.
  • Experience coordinating technical activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex system-level technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, program leadership, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing ruggedized, military-grade, or MIL-SPEC electronic hardware and computing systems.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense programs or other highly regulated aerospace or defense environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD standards and engineering processes related to system development, qualification, verification, and validation.
  • Experience developing or maintaining Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and managing complex hardware/software interfaces.
  • Experience with requirements management tools and requirements traceability.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), system architecture modeling, or related systems engineering methodologies.
  • Experience supporting reverse engineering, technology refresh, obsolescence management, or modernization of legacy electronic systems.
  • Experience with automated test equipment (ATE), test system development, or hardware/software integration.
  • Understanding of configuration management and engineering change-control processes., ATE Testers, Aerospace and Defense, Analysis Skills, Applications Security, Architectural Design, Change Control, Communication Skills, Computer Engineering, Computer Systems, Configuration Management, Dental Insurance, Design Evaluation, Document Management, Documentation, Electrical Engineering, Electricity, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Engineering, Engineering Change Management, Environmental Regulations, Hardware-Software Integration, Health Insurance, Identify Issues, Leadership, Mechanical Engineering, Military, Military/DoD Standards, Presentation/Verbal Skills, Problem Solving Skills, Product Lifecycle, Requirements Management, Reverse Engineering, Risk Analysis, Secret Clearance, Security Clearance, Software Testing, System Architecture, System Integration (SI), System Readiness Review (SRR), Systems Administration/Management, Systems Engineering, Systems Maintenance, Team Player, Technical Leadership, Technical Support, Test Automation, Test Equipment, Test Plan/Schedule, Traceability, Validation Testing, Writing Skills
