Job description

The Deputy Assistant Director for Strategy, Technology, and Innovation provides executive leadership and business process oversight for the division. This critical role requires a collaborative and credible leader who can oversee the division’s product portfolio and technology strategy while driving innovation and modernization efforts.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead during a pivotal phase in the modernization of workers’ compensation systems. The successful candidate will guide business strategy and the implementation of digital products that support operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and evolving customer expectations. Success in this role will be achieved through strategic oversight and full lifecycle management of assigned products and technology initiatives., Some of what you’ll do:

  • Provide enterprise-level strategic leadership by guiding the development, execution, and governance of the division’s strategic plan.
  • Lead product and portfolio management for information technology solutions, including data governance, analytics strategy, technology-enabled innovation, business process optimization, and technology-related risk management.
  • Oversee internal audit coordination and corrective action planning to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and execute the division’s strategic direction for technology, data, and innovation across the Workers’ Compensation program.
  • Lead cross-functional and cross-divisional teams through large-scale business transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure business strategy, customer experience, frontline operational realities, and data-informed insights drive decisions regarding scope, prioritization, and implementation., * You will need to attend in-person activities, meetings or events as needed for business purposes. This position can be located in any of our L&I service locations statewide. Employees will be responsible for travel and expense from their residence to their assigned office and/or Headquarters location in Tumwater, WA.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, organizational management, information technology, data management or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and significant, progressively responsible executive experience in strategy, technology, innovation, and enterprise leadership.

Desired:

  • Ability to provide executive oversight, strategic direction, and performance-based leadership in a complex organizational environment.
  • Knowledge of insurance, workers’ compensation, or related regulatory frameworks preferred.
  • Strong skills in resource planning, project staffing and budget management for multi-million-dollar programs.
  • Experience influencing organizational change, driving innovation, and aligning strategy, technology and operations across multiple business units.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, high-risk environments, making consequential decisions that impact enterprise outcomes.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
  • Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, organizational management, information technology, data management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of advanced education and progressively responsible executive experience in strategy, technology, and enterprise leadership., Prior to placement in a position at L&I, a background check, including criminal history record will be conducted.   • Flexible schedule, The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s job-related skills, experience and training. The target pay range of consideration for this exempt position is typically $120,804 - $170,076 annually. The full band pay range is $98,712 - $170,076 annually.
