Job description

DecisionPoint Corporation is seeking a Mid-Level Database Administrator to support our U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Integrated Booking System (IBS) program. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability in support of mission-critical transportation and logistics operations.The Database Administrator will manage relational database environments, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades, while ensuring compliance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). This role supports high availability and performance by developing patching schedules, maintaining system health, and resolving downtime or performance issues.In support of Agile development efforts, the Database Administrator will manage database configurations across multiple environments, assist with data migrations (including AWS RDS), and collaborate with development teams to optimize, * Design, plan, implement, and administer relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL), including security, access controls, and documentation

  • Establish, implement, and maintain database environments supporting development, testing, and production operations for the IBS program
  • Install, configure, and upgrade database software as required
  • Develop and maintain patching schedules to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed in a timely manner
  • Evaluate and apply DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure compliance
  • Establish and maintain database high availability strategies (e.g., backups, replication, snapshots)
  • Monitor and resolve database downtime and performance issues in a timely manner
  • Develop and troubleshoot RHEL Linux shell scripts to support database operations
  • Implement monitoring and notification mechanisms for database health and performance issues
  • Support release deployments, including execution of DDL/DML scripts
  • Collaborate with IBS program teams and stakeholders to support data requests and business-driven queries
  • Develop familiarity with data models, relationships, and structures across IBS applications and schemas
  • Support Agile development efforts by implementing database changes aligned with sprint timelines, ensuring quality and performance standards
  • Maintain database configuration control across multiple environments (Development, QA/Test, Government Test, Production)
  • Support migration of databases to AWS RDS (PostgreSQL or similar managed services)
  • Perform routine database administration tasks (daily, weekly, monthly), including performance monitoring, reporting, and data loads
  • Support after-hours production deployments and participate in on-call rotations to address critical issues

Requirements

  • IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE preferred)
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience administering relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)
  • At least 3 years of experience designing, implementing, and deploying database systems
  • Strong expertise in SQL, including performance tuning, query optimization, and data modeling
  • Experience troubleshooting database performance issues and optimizing database structures
  • Solid understanding of database design, development, and DBMS internals
  • Experience supporting database operations in a Linux (RHEL) environment
  • Ability to work independently and support multiple environments in a fast-paced, mission-driven setting
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting USTRANSCOM or DoD transportation/logistics systems
  • Familiarity with the Integrated Booking System (IBS) or similar freight/logistics platforms
  • Experience in Agile or hybrid Agile environments
  • Understanding of SDLC processes and system implementation lifecycle
  • Experience in risk management and program reporting
