Job description
This is an application and integration migration role - not a traditional telecom migration role. Our client is moving enterprise customers off impacted Azure Communication Services (ACS) workloads, including calling/video, call automation and recording, SMS, email, chat, advanced messaging (WhatsApp), and job router, onto Microsoft first-party destinations or approved third-party platforms where 1P does not meet customer requirements.
ACS provides APIs and SDKs that customer applications use to deliver communications capabilities. When an ACS workload is retired, the migration challenge may be embedded in the customer’’s application code and integrations. The Migration Lead will identify ACS dependencies in customer applications, determine the appropriate replacement architecture, modify or direct modification of application integrations, validate end-to-end behavior, and lead production cutover.
You will own a portfolio of named customers through assessment, target-state design, implementation, cutover, and post-cutover stabilization. You will work directly with customer developers and architects and coordinate vendor engineers and Microsoft specialists. This is a hands-on delivery role; you are not expected to be the sole engineer on every workload.
What You’‘ll Actually Do
- Inspect customer applications and identify where ACS APIs and SDKs are being used.
- Trace ACS dependencies across application code, configuration, APIs, webhooks, and downstream systems.
- Work directly with customer developers and architects to understand application dependencies and technical constraints.
- Map existing ACS functionality to Microsoft Graph, Teams, Dynamics 365, Azure Event Grid, Logic Apps, or approved third-party APIs/platforms.
- Read, troubleshoot, and modify application integration code or work directly with development teams to implement required changes.
- Design and execute integration testing, validation, dry runs, rollback plans, and production cutovers.
- Use logs, telemetry, API responses, and application behavior to diagnose migration issues.
- Lead production cutover bridges and post-cutover stabilization.
- Track ACS usage drawdown against baseline until residual usage reaches zero or the approved threshold.
- Create reusable migration patterns, technical documentation, and runbooks to accelerate subsequent customer migrations., * Traditional telecom/UC engineers whose migration experience is primarily Avaya, Cisco, CUCM, SIP, SBC, PSTN, dial plans, or room systems.
- Candidates who have migrated telephony infrastructure but have not migrated application integrations.
- Program managers who coordinate migrations but cannot understand or troubleshoot application/API integrations.
- Generic Azure/cloud solution architects without hands-on software integration experience.
- Strategists, product marketers, or governance-only program managers.
- Candidates whose migration experience is limited to advisory decks, requirements gathering, or architecture reviews without hands-on implementation or cutover ownership.

- Strong hands-on coding experience in C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java; ability to open and understand an existing application, identify API/SDK dependencies, and modify integration code.
- Deep experience with REST APIs, SDKs, webhooks, authentication/identity, event-driven integrations, and application logging/telemetry.
- Experience leading production migrations or cutovers involving live applications, integrations, users, or traffic.
- Ability to translate existing application dependencies into a target-state architecture, implementation plan, test plan, and production cutover plan.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with developers, engineering leads, architects, and executives.
- Working knowledge of Azure as it applies to application integrations, identity, networking, eventing, monitoring, and telemetry.
- S. business hours, occasional off-hours cutover windows, limited travel, and background-check eligibility., * Direct Azure Communication Services experience (Calling, Call Automation, SMS, Email, Chat, Advanced Messaging, Job Router).
- Experience with Microsoft Graph, Teams/Teams Phone, Dynamics 365 Contact Center, Azure Event Grid, or Logic Apps.
- Experience with application-integrated communications platforms or CPaaS, such as Twilio, Vonage, Sinch, Bandwidth, or Infobip.
- Experience with developer-facing contact center platforms such as Genesys Cloud, Amazon Connect, Five9, or Dynamics 365.
- Regulated-industry migrations or high-volume messaging compliance, including 10DLC, consent/opt-in, or deliverability.
