ISSE Level III

The ISSE Level III position is a senior-level role focused on providing expert systems security engineering support to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information systems. The primary objective is to lead the development, implementation, and assessment of security architectures and controls in compliance with federal regulations and organizational policies. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate security requirements throughout the system development lifecycle, from concept through deployment and sustainment. The ISSE Level III will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the organization’s cybersecurity posture. Ultimately, this position ensures that complex systems operate securely within a dynamic threat environment, supporting mission success and risk mitigation strategies., * Lead the design and implementation of security architectures for complex information systems in accordance with DoD and federal cybersecurity standards.

• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify and mitigate potential security threats.
• Develop and review system security plans, security assessment reports, and authorization packages to support system accreditation processes.
• Collaborate with system developers, network engineers, and program managers to integrate security controls and ensure compliance with security policies.
• Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior ISSE staff and other stakeholders on security best practices and emerging threats.
• Stay current with evolving cybersecurity regulations, standards, and technologies to inform security strategies and recommendations.
• Participate in incident response activities and support remediation efforts to address security incidents and vulnerabilities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in systems security engineering or a related cybersecurity discipline.
• In-depth knowledge of DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST SP 800-53, and other relevant federal cybersecurity standards.
• Passive evaluations such as compliance audits using STIG Viewer, SCAP, etc. and active evaluations such as vulnerability assessments utilizing tools such as ACAS..
• Active security clearance at the required level (e.g., Secret or Top Secret) as mandated by the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with automated security assessment tools and continuous monitoring solutions.
• Prior experience working within DoD or federal government cybersecurity programs., The required skills enable the ISSE Level III to effectively analyze complex security requirements and design robust security architectures that protect critical systems. Proficiency in federal cybersecurity frameworks and risk management processes ensures that the candidate can develop compliant security documentation and guide systems through authorization. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for working with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff. Preferred skills such as cloud security expertise and professional certifications enhance the ability to address emerging threats and leverage modern technologies. Together, these skills support the daily responsibilities of securing information systems, managing risks, and maintaining compliance in a dynamic cybersecurity environment.
