Job description
The Business Applications team at Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Senior Applications Administrator to provide advanced, hands-on support for enterprise applications, including cloud and on-premises solutions. This role focuses on operational excellence by maintaining system stability, resolving complex production issues, and ensuring critical applications run reliably each day. You will work closely with infrastructure teams, database teams, vendors, and the Technical Lead as a key technical expert responsible for system health, performance, and availability.
A hybrid Telework Schedule will be considered for this position; hybrid is defined as a pre-determined blend of working from home and in the office with 2 days remote/3 days on-site
What You’ll Do:
- Provide advanced administration and operational support for on premise and cloud enterprise applications
- Support critical utility specific applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues; escalate strategically when needed
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to ensure system continuity
- Project technical execution - ensuring alignment, quality, risk mitigation, and scalability
- Participate in planning and completing system upgrades, patching strategies, lifecycle management, and architecture evaluations
- Conduct performance analysis and tuning; identify bottlenecks and partner on solutions
- Investigating recurring issues and driving long-term stability improvements
- Maintain system and operational procedural documentation
- Follow established change, incident, and support processes while collaborating with peers
Requirements
- A hands-on technical expert with server administration (Unix/Linux/Windows), scripting, and automation using tools such as PowerShell and Windows batch scripting to support enterprise infrastructure and operational processes
- Proficiency with relational databases, query optimization, and enterprise data practices
- Experience overseeing complex enterprise systems and influencing technical direction across multiple teams
- Familiarity with cloud/on-prem architectures, middleware, scripting, and modern development practices
- Demonstrated ability to seamlessly shift across multiple systems, priorities, and technologies, maintaining continuity and performance
- Independent yet collaborative within a structured operational model
- Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to reliability, performance, and consistency
- Clear communicator who can translate technical findings effectively, * 3-5+ years of experience in application or systems administration
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting business-critical, high-availability systems
- Prior participation in an on-call production environment
- Strong grasp of troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident resolution
Preferred/Nice to Have:
- Background in utilities, regulated industries, or large enterprise environments
- System Performance tuning (application, middleware, database
- Scripting/automation (Shell, Python, etc.)
- Monitoring, alerting, and log analysis tools
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (1/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
