Job description

You’ll design, build and deploy production data solutions yourself. You’ll also have the experience to make good technical decisions, solve difficult engineering problems and provide guidance to other engineers when needed.

What are you joining?

The data platform supports important operational, reporting and analytics requirements across a highly regulated Wealth Management business.

Microsoft Fabric is becoming central to that environment, with the existing Azure Synapse platform being migrated away from by the end of the year.

That means you’re joining while meaningful engineering change is actually happening rather than after somebody else has completed the interesting work.

You’ll be involved in the move to Fabric while continuing to develop the pipelines, integrations, models and analytics solutions the business depends on.

What will you be doing?

This is primarily a build and delivery role.

You’ll:

  • Design and build data solutions using Microsoft Fabric
  • Develop Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse and OneLake capabilities
  • Build and optimise data pipelines and ETL / ELT processes
  • Develop data models and analytics solutions
  • Work extensively with Power BI
  • Integrate internal and third-party systems through APIs
  • Work with Azure Data Lake, SQL Server and SQL
  • Support the existing Synapse environment while it transitions to Fabric
  • Use Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD to develop and deploy production solutions
  • Improve engineering quality, maintainability and repeatability
  • Solve production engineering problems rather than simply producing designs for somebody else to implement
  • Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to other engineers

Requirements

Both are essential. We’re looking for genuine hands-on commercial experience rather than somebody who has only had peripheral exposure to Fabric.

You’ll also need a strong grounding in Data Engineering, including:

  • SQL
  • ETL / ELT
  • Data modelling
  • Azure data platforms
  • API integration
  • Source control
  • CI/CD and deployment
  • Building and supporting production data solutions

Azure Synapse is desirable, not essential.

It’s useful because Synapse remains within the current environment, but the strategic direction is Fabric and the business intends to move away from Synapse by the end of the year.

You’ll also need previous experience developing and deploying software or data solutions within a highly regulated environment.

Financial Services experience is highly preferable, particularly Wealth Management, Banking, Insurance or another regulated financial organisation., Perhaps you’re using Copilot or another LLM as part of development. Maybe you’re validating code, improving documentation, investigating problems or experimenting with AI-enabled data solutions.

That’s enough to start the conversation.

The attraction is the opportunity to build on that experience as AI becomes increasingly integrated into the wider data and technology environment.

Technology environment

Data: Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse

Analytics: Power BI

Engineering: SQL Server, SQL, ETL / ELT, API integrations

Delivery: Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD

AI: Azure AI Foundry and wider Microsoft AI tooling
