Job description
As a Cyber Network Engineer, you will help modernize SD-WAN and enterprise networking across a large, distributed VA environment. You will support VA OIT in delivering secure, resilient, and scalable network services while contributing to next-generation initiatives, including:
- High-capacity fabrics for AI and data-intensive workloads, using north-south and east-west segmentation with automation for resilient service delivery.
- Advanced EVPN/VXLAN overlays that extend scalability, segmentation, and agility beyond traditional VLAN architectures.
- IPv6-first designs to prepare VA infrastructure for future-ready capabilities and expanding connected ecosystems.
- LEO satellite connectivity for emergency failover, rapid deployment, and mission-critical reach to remote clinics., * Create detailed network architecture specifications and schematics.
- Provide hardware/software maintenance guidance and perform network testing.
- Maintain expertise across routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, gateways, and related systems.
- Develop technical solutions for complex problems aligned with program goals.
- Contribute to major engineering projects and modernization efforts.
- Work independently to resolve complex issues, with work evaluated for meeting objectives.
- Present technical solutions and participate in briefings with internal/external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years in network engineering or telecom/network modernization.
- Strong experience in LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, routing, VoIP/SIP, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud networking.
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools.
- Understanding of NIST, Zero Trust, TIC, STIGs.
- Ability to support escalations in a 24×7 environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- TCP/IP, DNS, FTP, SSH, ACLs, VLANs, DMZ, BGP.
- Troubleshooting routing/switching in large enterprise environments.
- IPSEC, DMVPN, Site-to-Site VPN, L3VPN, VPLS.
- EIGRP, OSPF, BGP tuning and security.
- Cisco ASR, ISR, Catalyst, NX-OS, Nexus.
- Cisco FTD/FMC.
- Packet-capture analysis (Wireshark).
DESIRED SKILLS
- CCNA, CCNP, CCDP; CCIE Security preferred.
- Security+.
- Experience integrating Cisco ISE across enterprise networks., Years of Experience

This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
