Job description
The IBM Power AIX Systems Engineer I is an entry-level position designed for an individual eager to develop deep technical expertise in enterprise Unix environments, virtualization, and high-performance hardware management. This role will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and day-to-day management of IBM Power Systems environments. You will work with a team and independently to support our clients in the public and private sector.
The Engineer will perform all responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Hardware Management: Assist in the physical and logical setup of IBM Power Servers and Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
- Virtualization: Learn to deploy and manage virtual resources using PowerVM and Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS).
- System Maintenance: Perform routine AIX operating system installations, migrations, and patch management (TL/SP updates).
- Monitoring: Monitor system performance, error logs, and hardware alerts to ensure maximum uptime.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system configurations, hardware inventory, and procedural changes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior administrators to troubleshoot complex issues and implement infrastructure improvements.
- Design and deploy functional IBM Power w AIX / Linux
Requirements
- Basic understanding of Unix/Linux command-line interfaces and file system structures.
- Basic knowledge of server architecture and data center environments.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent technical certification/experience).
- Precise execution of technical procedures is critical to maintaining system stability.
- A strong desire to learn proprietary IBM technologies and evolve within the role.
- Ability to follow logic-based troubleshooting steps to resolve technical discrepancies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively to achieve shared objectives.
