Data Engineer

The Data Engineer role requires a blend of data engineering expertise, platform architecture knowledge, business analysis capability, and disciplined engineering practices. The platform work includes data ingestion, lakehouse architecture, medallion data design, semantic modeling, data quality, and long-term platform support and expansion., * Become the internal technical owner of a new Microsoft Fabric and OneLake environment that will serve as a critical enterprise data platform for the organization.

• Work directly alongside AI development resources to create the data infrastructure that will enable the organization’s next generation of AI and automation initiatives.
• Partner with experienced consultants during the initial implementation, giving you the opportunity to learn the environment from the ground up before taking long-term ownership.
• Work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. with limited travel while joining an established organization where you’ll have significant autonomy, visibility, and opportunities to expand your technical expertise., * Serve as the long-term technical owner and subject matter expert for Microsoft Fabric and OneLake.
• Partner with a third-party implementation team to design, build, and deploy a new unified enterprise data platform.
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines that bring information from disparate systems and sources into the centralized data environment.
• Help define how data is ingested, transformed, structured, stored, and made accessible to teams across the organization.
• Build and maintain reliable ETL/ELT processes and data integrations.
• Monitor and optimize data pipelines and platform performance, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Work closely with application, SQL, AI, and Power Platform developers to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Partner with internal AI development resources to make enterprise data available for emerging generative AI and automation initiatives.
• Support and evolve established data governance, quality, security, and documentation standards.
• Evaluate new capabilities within the Microsoft data ecosystem and recommend opportunities to improve the platform.
• Serve as a trusted technical resource for questions related to the unified data environment.

• 4+ years of professional Data Engineering experience, with the ability to independently own technical projects and solve complex data challenges.
• Hands-on experience within the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or OneLake strongly preferred.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational and enterprise data sources.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and data integrations.
• Experience within environmental consulting, architecture, engineering, construction (AEC), utilities, government contracting, or a related professional-services environment.
• Understanding of modern data warehouse, data lake, and/or lakehouse architectures.
• Experience integrating data from multiple applications, databases, APIs, or enterprise systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot data quality, pipeline, integration, and performance issues.
• Familiarity with data governance, security, access management, lineage, and data quality principles.
• Ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the curiosity and initiative to learn new technologies.
• Comfortable working in an environment where you can wear multiple hats and take meaningful ownership of solutions.
