Job description
We are seeking a Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer with extensive IT and system programming experience to support enterprise mainframe environments. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting z/OS systems, software, hardware configurations, and related infrastructure.
The position will support system programming activities, infrastructure solutions, monitoring, capacity planning, disaster recovery, software implementation, and customer support across enterprise environments., * Design, operate, and maintain enterprise servers, including IBM mainframe systems, high-performance computing systems, and hybrid/cloud environments.
- Research, design, implement, and maintain complex infrastructure solutions supporting internal customer needs.
- Design and configure secure virtualized environments aligned with enterprise architecture requirements.
- Utilize existing tools or assist in developing custom monitoring solutions to ensure systems are properly configured, efficient, and secure.
- Monitor CPU, memory, storage, and network resources to ensure effective utilization and appropriate resource management.
- Resolve infrastructure bottlenecks and plan for future capacity requirements based on resource usage trends.
- Advise enterprise architecture teams on resource usage trends for future infrastructure planning.
- Install, customize, test, implement, document, and support independent software vendor (ISV) products.
- Work with software vendors to troubleshoot and resolve product-related problems.
- Code in Assembler to develop, test, implement, document, and support system modifications and MVS/JES exits.
- Analyze, debug, and resolve z/OS software problems.
- Support z/OS UNIX System Services (USS) and WebSphere environments.
- Work with IBM technical support to resolve z/OS software and hardware issues.
- Create and analyze RACF profiles.
- Provide system programming support for the installation and upgrade of mainframe hardware configurations.
- Provide support for Disaster Recovery planning and testing, including off-hours support.
- Participate in rotational 24x7 support for software-related issues.
- Provide Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 customer support for software and hardware-related trouble tickets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 10+ years of IT experience.
- 8+ years of development experience.
- Practical experience in two coding languages or advanced practical experience in one coding language.
- Experience with mainframe systems.
- Experience with z/OS.

Eight or more years of system programming experience, including:
- Dump analysis
- SMP/E
- SMF
- USS
- Omegamon
- MVS and JES exits
- Problem analysis and resolution
Working knowledge of z/OS internals in JES2 or JES3 environments.
Experience planning, customizing, testing, and providing ongoing support for Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products, including CA Technologies, BMC, SAS, and IBM products.
Knowledge and experience with corporate and group security and control policies, procedures, and standards.
Experience supporting Disaster Recovery for z/OS environments.
Working knowledge of ISPF, TSO, JCL, and IBM utilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Willingness and ability to work overtime, including all shifts, weekends, and holidays., * Proficiency in Assembler, REXX, CLIST, and SAS coding.
- Experience with Access, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project for project administration.
- Experience with RACF.
