Job description

  • Designs and documents data solutions by preparing diagrams, logic charts and internal specification documentation.
  • Writes SQL code from internal specification documentation, prepares test plans and tests data. Runs tests, observes results and corrects program code to resolve any differences with internal specifications.
  • Prepares software operating documentation and users operating instructions.
  • Prepares time and cost estimates and schedules for computer systems software development and maintenance or modification tasks.
  • Analyzes MSTS computer user requirements.
  • Participates with software development and support personnel defining software requirements for development, maintenance or improvements.
  • Administers data platforms, including code deployments, upgrades, and access.
  • Provides instruction in the operation and use of computer hardware, data communications equipment, and vendor-supplied or MSTS-developed systems software.
  • Resolves systems software problems referred by computer operations or software development and user support personnel.
  • May provide support to the User Support Training organization.
  • May design, code, test, debug, document and maintain programs.
  • May use CASE tools.
  • May provide guidance, training, and assistance to other IT personnel.
  • May prepare specifications from which programs will be written.
  • May plan and coordinate data-related activities, including:
  • Coordinating requests for access to data
  • Developing and implementing data administration standards regarding validation, integrity, storage, and security of data; internal object naming conventions, and data access methods
  • Consulting on DBMS issues including installation and management of front-end tools
  • Developing strategic and functional plans for the evolution of data and information architecture
  • Resolving issues associated with data administration
  • Acting as the single point of contact with the DBMS vendor
  • Establishing DBMS backup, recover, and restart procedures
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement data-driven solutions
  • Creating data visualizations and reports

Requirements

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent training and experience with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of technical principles, theories, standards, practices and procedures in software development, database administration, or data analytics.
  • Ability to lead projects that may involve other IT sections, other departments, and consultants.
  • Ability to manage increasing number of tasks.
  • Ability to support multiple software applications or database platforms.
  • Must have experience in tools and technology used by NNSS (i.e. Microsoft BI Stack (including Power BI), Azure DevOps, Denodo.
  • Demonstrate good analytical skills.
  • Ability to solve design problems.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrate technical trouble shooting skills.
  • Demonstrate testing and debugging skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of SQL Server and Oracle relational databases.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • The primary work location will be at the Losee Road Facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • Personnel may be requested by leadership to work in excess of 40 hours per week due to projects, activities, and emergences; critical operational demands may occasionally require off-shift work.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’
