VMware Infrastructure Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a VMware Infrastructure Engineer for a top enterprise client supporting a critical infrastructure modernization initiative. This engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and deploying a new VMware 9.1 environment leveraging a modern 3-tier architecture. The ideal candidate has deep VMware expertise, strong storage and server infrastructure knowledge, and a proven track record of building environments from the ground up rather than simply maintaining existing systems. This individual will partner closely with a highly technical team to rebuild infrastructure using modern best practices and Infrastructure as Code methodologies, utilizing tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Packer. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys greenfield deployments, infrastructure automation, and enterprise-scale virtualization projects. This is a 4-8 month contract and pays $55-$65/hr.

• 4+ years of VMware engineering experience

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Hands-on experience with modern VMware environments (VMware 9/9.1 preferred)

• Experience building and deploying VMware architecture from the ground up

• Must have personally designed, implemented, and configured environments, not simply supported existing infrastructure

• Experience with 3-tier hypervisor architecture

• Enterprise SAN/storage experience, preferably Dell PowerStore or similar platforms

• Experience with Fibre Channel/Fiber storage technologies

• Server hardware and firmware management experience

• Terraform experience

• Ansible experience

• Packer experience

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience

• Experience documenting architecture, deployments, and configurations

• Ability to rebuild infrastructure using modern VMware best practices - Experience modernizing legacy VMware 8 environments

• Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure transformation projects

• Experience working within highly automated infrastructure environments

• VMware certifications
