Job description

  • Own complex technical problems and features, from understanding the problem and defining an approach through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, identify dependencies, and translate user needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Contribute to system and architecture design decisions, evaluating tradeoffs and balancing maintainability, reliability, scalability, and time to delivery.
  • Proactively communicate technical risks, dependencies, decisions, and changes in direction, and investigate production issues across interconnected services and external dependencies.
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture through code and design reviews, knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge and quickly build context in unfamiliar systems and technologies to solve problems effectively.

Requirements

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Senior Engineer to help bring the best possible software solutions to educators.

You will own complex technical problems, collaborate closely with engineers and cross-functional partners, and help design and build reliable, scalable software. We value engineers who are curious and thoughtful, value open communication, and are committed to continuous improvement.

You will have the opportunity to immediately contribute and see the results of your work in use by students, teachers, parents, and district administrators across the country., * 5+ years of professional software development experience

  • Professional experience building and maintaining backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Experience contributing to software architecture and system design decisions, with a strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable software
  • Strong understanding of database technologies, data modeling, and SQL, with experience working with relational databases
  • Hands-on experience deploying and supporting software in production environments, including application monitoring, observability, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
  • 2+ years of professional experience working with a modern frontend framework, preferably Angular
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to thrive in an environment of continuous improvement and open feedback

Nice to Haves

  • Experience building and maintaining event-driven or asynchronous systems, using technologies such as Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms
  • Experience with search and indexing technologies such as OpenSearch
  • Experience with advanced observability and telemetry, including OpenTelemetry (OTel)
  • Experience with Docker and containerized applications
  • Experience building solutions hosted in AWS
  • Experience with backend frameworks such as NestJS
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working with K-12 education technology
