Job description

You will be our most senior full-time individual contributor engineer. We now need an exceptional full-time engineer who can own day-to-day technical execution, write production code, and help run the show from a software standpoint.

You will report directly to the President / CTO. You will collaborate with clinicians, enrollment, operations, analytics, commercial leaders, and occasionally clients or health plan partners.

This is a hands-on builder role. You should expect to code full-time, own major systems, make technical decisions, debug production issues, improve reliability, and turn ambiguous healthcare workflows into simple, durable software.

What You’ll Own

You will help build and own major parts of the Protera platform, including:

  • Patient onboarding, engagement, and portal workflows
  • Clinician workflows, scheduling, documentation support, and care coordination
  • Enrollment, call center, and internal operations tooling
  • Data pipelines, reporting infrastructure, and partner-facing analytics
  • Integrations with EMRs, CRM systems, analytics tools, and healthcare vendors
  • AI-assisted internal tools that improve speed, accuracy, and operational leverage
  • Platform reliability, security, observability, performance, and maintainability

You may join client, payer, or partner calls when useful so you can understand the real-world problems our software must solve.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has already operated at at Principal Engineer scope or equivalent, and still wants to spend their time writing production code.

You should have:

  • Deep hands-on experience with Elixir / Phoenix including LiveView
  • Experienced in AI engineering techniques and tools
  • Strong full-stack ability, including experience with API’s and backend systems, Python and modern data engineering techniques and systems
  • Experience building and operating production systems used by real customers
  • Strong database experience, especially PostgreSQL or similar relational systems
  • Comfort with cloud infrastructure, monitoring, security, and production support
  • Strong judgment about when to move fast and when correctness, privacy, compliance, or reliability require extra care
  • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Meaningful healthcare technology experience in heavily compliant systems, such as HIPAA-regulated software, patient applications, clinician workflows, EMR/EHR integrations, payer workflows, claims, care management, and digital health operations

Pluses include:

Knowledge and experience with Salesforce development, GraphQL, FHIR, HL7, healthcare APIs, AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, or AI-enabled internal tooling.

Benefits & conditions

Competitive compensation for the right person, with a package based on experience including cash compensation, equity, PTO, benefits, fully remote work environment, and more.

About the company

Protera Health is building a new model of virtual musculoskeletal care: physician-led, multidisciplinary, technology-enabled, and designed to treat patients the way we would want our own family members treated.

We partner with health plans, employers, and healthcare organizations to deliver high-quality MSK care at scale. Our platform supports patient enrollment, clinical care, provider workflows, operations, analytics, partner reporting, and internal automation., We are building an AI-first healthcare company. AI should be part of how you write, test, refactor, debug, document, and ship software faster.

You will thrive here if you are direct, curious, fast, accountable, and comfortable with ambiguity. You understand the real problem, make sensible tradeoffs, and ship.

This is a rare opportunity to become the senior full-time technical owner inside a growing healthcare company with real customers, real patients, real revenue, and real operational complexity.

If you want to build the operating system for modern MSK care - with Elixir, AI, and real healthcare impact - we would love to meet you.
