Software Quality Code Review Reliability of Systems

Job description

We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to join our Lending Products team in San Francisco and lead the technical evolution of the platforms and infrastructure that power Parafin’s lending products. The Lending Products team builds the core systems, frameworks, and tooling that engineers across Parafin rely on to build and iterate on financial products. You’ll partner with engineering teams across the company to build the platform capabilities that enable us to ship new product verticals and features quickly and reliably.

As a Staff engineer, you’ll lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution. You’ll make architecture decisions that affect company-wide architecture, drive alignment across the teams that depend on your platforms, and raise the bar for engineering quality by mentoring engineers and improving team processes.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead the technical design and evolution of the platforms, frameworks, and shared infrastructure that power all of Parafin’s lending products.
  • Partner with engineers on teams that own specific lending verticals to understand their needs and build platform capabilities that enable them to move quickly.
  • Set technical direction through engineering design docs, architecture reviews, and design discussions, aligning the team on priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Identify, prioritize, and own infrastructure improvements that accelerate product development and maintain high levels of system reliability.
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality through mentoring, code review, and improving team processes and reliability practices.
  • Mentor other engineers, drive improvements to team processes and code quality, and foster a culture of craft and ownership.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience working in a backend engineering role, ideally in a platform or product-focused environment.
  • You care deeply about building high-quality software and take immense pride in your craft.
  • You have experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects and can make sound tradeoffs across reliability, scalability, developer experience, and time to value.
  • You take the initiative to identify commonalities between different problem statements and design appropriate abstractions.
  • You have strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working across Engineering, Product, and Data Science teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building internal platforms or frameworks that other engineering teams build on top of.
  • Experience in fintech, financial products, or embedded finance.
  • Experience designing systems with strong correctness and auditability requirements.

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary Range: $285k - $330k +
  • Equity grant
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Work from home flexibility
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Commuter benefits
  • Free lunches
  • Paid parental leave
  • 401(k)
  • Employee assistance program
