Job description

The next wave of stablecoin adoption is payments. We’re building a stablecoin clearinghouse to make stablecoins move like money, not a trading asset. Payments don’t run on trading, but stablecoins currently do, this is unacceptable for traditional payments companies. We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who obsesses over correctness/efficiency and likes to get involved across backend/distributed systems. Help us build the systems that help us build faster with confidence by owning and building internal tools, dev infrastructure, and automation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in platform engineering, developer tooling, infrastructure, or reliability engineering.
  • Expert in GCP or AWS.
  • Comfortable with TypeScript and/or Python.
  • NodeJS or similar runtime environments
  • PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS
  • You’ve built infrastructure for systems where correctness actually matters: payments, trading, ledgers, or platforms with similar requirements.
  • You reason naturally about state, ordering, idempotency, failure modes, and consistency in distributed systems.
  • Experience with formal verification, property-based testing, or chaos engineering is a big plus, especially if you’ve spent time with tools like Temporal or TigerBeetle.
  • You have strong opinions about what good internal tooling looks like, and you build it proactively
  • You thrive in ambiguity, viewing a lack of specificity as an opportunity for ownership.

Benefits & conditions

  • Be offended by the status quo - a payment taking 3 days and costing 3% is offensive. Every day that people interact with legacy financial infrastructure costs humanity time and money. Bring the future forward with righteous indignation.
  • Be all over it - operate with extreme urgency and accountability. Know the numbers, meet the right people, answer every email, go the extra mile. Ask yourself: can it be done today?
  • We sell trust - trust is easy to lose. Security and integrity are our foundation. Use every interaction and every product as an opportunity to build trust. This is non-negotiable.
  • Do the dishes - we are all owners. Put ego aside and get shit done.
  • Be the glue - pick each other up and make each other better. Be direct, be helpful, and assume positive intent. Win as a team.
  • We enjoy the crucible! We are on a mission to change money. It takes a lot of optimism to attack such an ambitious goal. Our opportunity is a privilege and we don’t forget that. Especially when the journey is hard., We’re playing the long-game. We think you should too. This means investing in our employees. We offer comprehensive (and growing) benefits, including:
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Comprehensive insurance (medical/dental/vision)
  • Unlimited vacation: Take time when you need it
  • Periodic off-sites

Equal Opportunity Employment:

The Better Money Company is an equal opportunity employer. We are looking for the best!

About the company

We believe stablecoins are better money and will be the backbone of better payments. We see key structural problems hindering stablecoin adoption, and we’re going to fix them - starting with building a clearinghouse. We’re a small, scrappy team (~10 people) based in NYC, we’ve raised $10M from a16z crypto and other excellent partners, and we’re going to bring better money to the world.

What You’ll Do

  • Help shape how we responsibly bring AI-assisted development into core financial infrastructure, without giving up correctness guarantees.
  • Own the test harness for our core systems: integration tests, formal verification, and chaos testing across the ledger, netting algorithm, money movement, and payment ordering.
  • Build correctness guarantees that let the rest of the team ship faster. If we can prove it’s right, we can move with confidence.
  • Design and build internal tools that amplify our productivity.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines, dev environments, and deployment infrastructure. Make the path from code to production fast, safe, and boring.
  • Instrument our systems with observability like logging, tracing, alerting, so we catch problems before our customers do.
