Job description

Mavie supports companies in caring for the health of their employees. With many years of expertise, tailored solutions and both digital and analogue services. We offer solution-oriented short-term counselling for employees and Company Assistance (trainings, workshops, seminars…) for our clients. All our solutions are tailor-made and adapted to the ever-changing challenges of our times. Because we believe that mental and physical health is something special and valuable, and that quality of life and wellbeing are inseparable from it. That is why we accompany people on their path to better health and wellbeing - in their working lives as well as their private ones.

Across eight European markets, data is created every day: from our EAP counselling, from the Lifestyle Check - our on-site health checkup - and from our digital services. The Lifestyle Check runs on a real on-site PC that talks to medical measurement devices, an Angular lab app used by our staff, a Django backend that manages configurations and uploads, and a wider platform that turns the results into reports and user-facing health insights.

Your job: You will become the central technical owner of the Lifestyle Check / Wellabe product. You take over responsibility for the on-site lab service, the lab operator web app, the device configuration backend and the integrations into our platform. The initial focus is on stabilising and improving the on-site lab stack - the Windows service, the lab operator app and the backend that manages device configurations and uploads. From there you will shape the broader product: cleaner architecture, reliable releases, better data quality, and smoother integrations with the Wellabe mobile app and admin platform. 1 Software Engineer (m/f/d) ¿ Lifestyle Check & Wellabe Lab Systems Your mission Ownership Lifestyle Check - lab systems

  • Taking over and owning the on-site Windows service that bridges our medical measurement devices to the platform. It drives around 10 device families via Bluetooth, serial, TCP and file exchange.
  • Operation, maintenance and further development of the device drivers, the local REST API, the system-tray status UI, firmware updates and the Windows installer.
  • Building and shipping releases: PyInstaller executable, NSIS installer, Windows Defender/firewall handling, auto-update mechanism and the PT10 ESP32 firmware flasher.
  • Rolling out releases to the lab sites and troubleshooting problems that occur on-site - including occasional travel to our locations.
  • Securing and documenting the systems so they can be maintained by more than one person in the long run.

Lab operator frontend and backend

  • Owning the lab operator web app, an Angular / Ionic / Electron application that runs on the lab PC and guides the operator through login, packages, stations, appointments and the checkup flow.
  • Maintaining and improving the Capacitor/Electron build and the GitHub Actions release pipeline.
  • Owning the device configuration backend, a Django REST backend that stores lab and device configuration, authenticates lab operators, generates signed Google Cloud Storage URLs and receives logs from the field.
  • Keeping the REST APIs, PostgreSQL models, authentication bridge and upload pipeline secure and reliable.

Product-wide improvements and integrations

  • Driving refactoring, dependency updates and reliability improvements across the Lifestyle Check stack.
  • Integrating with the wider Wellabe platform: the Laravel/PHP admin platform for device master data, the Flask backend that handles body-age calculations and reporting, and the Ionic/Capacitor mobile app for user-facing results.
  • Improving observability: centralised logging, clearer error signals and faster remote diagnosis so that “it didn’t work in Munich on Tuesday” becomes solvable from your desk.
  • Maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines, build tooling and release workflows.

Data quality & collaboration

  • Quality and robustness ownership - you design and maintain solutions that are reliable, fit our business needs and are reasonably easy to operate and maintain.
  • Careful handling of health data - data protection and security are not a formality here.
  • Collaboration with our development team.

Requirements

  • Strong Python skills - you can find your way into unfamiliar, grown code and own both Flask and Django backends.
  • Experience with hardware integration - serial interfaces, Bluetooth, TCP; you can read a device protocol and understand what is happening on the wire.
  • Frontend skills - solid Angular/TypeScript experience and a practical understanding of Ionic/Capacitor or Electron build chains.
  • Strong SQL and experience with relational databases (we use PostgreSQL and SQLite).
  • Remote debugging from incomplete information - you can reconstruct what happened from logs, screenshots and second-hand descriptions, without being able to reproduce the issue locally.
  • Willingness to travel to our offices in Munich and Vienna, and enjoyment of working with real devices.
  • Fluent German - you need to communicate with local teams and support staff at our lab sites in German-speaking countries.
  • Good English - collaboration in an international team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Windows engineering - services, packaging, installers, firewall; our application runs unattended on the on-site PCs.
  • PyInstaller + NSIS experience, or comparable desktop-deployment tooling.
  • PHP / Laravel basics so you can read and coordinate changes in our admin platform.
  • Security awareness - patching, handling secrets, dependency management, GDPR in a health context.
