Job description
Solution & Technical Architecture
- Act as the technical design authority for the platform, producing and maintaining high-level and detailed solution designs across its core service domains.
- Define target-state architecture for the platform’s mixed .NET Core, Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Vue.js, React) estate, ensuring new solutions are consistent with agreed patterns and standards.
- Design integration patterns across the containerisation (Docker), reverse-Proxy/API layer (OpenResty, Nginx) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) tooling.
- Design and govern integration with identity, authentication and security platforms (LinOTP, RADIUS, WSO2 IdAM, WSO2 API Gateway, ClamAV), ensuring solutions meet authentication, authorisation and malware-scanning requirements.
- Produce architecture decision records (ADRs), solution diagrams and non-functional requirement (NFR) specifications for significant changes.
Technology Modernisation & Target-State Roadmap
- Own the target-state architecture and modernisation roadmap for the platform, identifying and sequencing remediation of end-of-life or unsupported components (for example, the current Terraform estate).
- Assess the long-term viability of Legacy application components - including the .NET WPF desktop application and the dual Front End framework footprint (Vue.js and React) - and produce architecture recommendations on consolidation, retirement or re-platforming.
- Evaluate and recommend use of managed AWS services (SQS, DynamoDB, SageMaker, OpenSearch, FSx, WorkSpaces, ECR) against in-house build, applying AWS Well-Architected principles.
- Maintain a technology radar/roadmap for the estate, flagging obsolescence and security risk to programme governance.
Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in software engineering or architecture, including 3+ years as a solution/technical architect on multi-service platforms.
- Proven track record designing technology modernisation - defining target-state architectures and migration paths from Legacy applications and infrastructure to currently supported, cloud-native patterns.
- Strong architectural grounding in .NET/.NET Core, with working knowledge of Python and modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React).
- Experience designing solutions using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and containerised deployment (Docker) at scale.
- Experience architecting with AWS managed services (RDS, SQS, DynamoDB, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, ECR) and applying the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Experience designing with identity, authentication and API gateway technologies (eg WSO2, RADIUS-based systems, or equivalents).
- Experience operating in a regulated, security-conscious or public-sector environment, with a strong understanding of data minimisation, data protection and audit requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear architecture artefacts (HLDs/LLDs, ADRs, solution diagrams) and to defend them at governance boards.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to translate architectural trade-offs into business impact for senior and non-technical audiences.
Desirable
- Experience architecting law-enforcement, intelligence, or regulatory case-management platforms.
- Familiarity with WSO2 API Gateway/IdAM, ClamAV or similar security tooling.
- Experience architecting data-science/ML tooling (SageMaker) or search/analytics platforms in an analytical-toolset context.
- Relevant security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
- TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional), or an equivalent architecture certification., * Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- TOGAF (or an equivalent enterprise/solution architecture framework) certification is desirable; AWS Certified Solutions Architect is also desirable.
