Job description
I’m partnering with an established energy infrastructure company seeking a Quantitative Risk Analyst to advance its modeling and risk analytics capabilities across a power and natural gas portfolio.
Embedded within the Commercial Operations and Risk Management functions, this individual will deliver quantitative insights that inform fuel strategy, dispatch optimization, margin and basis exposure, liquidity management and new project evaluation. This is a hands-on analytics role rather than a trading position.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze price volatility, correlation structures and margin drivers across fuel, basis and power markets
- Model plant-level earnings and margin at risk using deterministic and probabilistic methods
- Run Monte Carlo simulations, sensitivities and scenario analyses
- Support transaction-level risk measurement, including exposures, sensitivities and VaR-type metrics
- Evaluate fuel supply, storage, transportation and dual-fuel dispatch constraints
- Support PPA valuation, tolling agreements, heat-rate options and project economics
- Build nodal and hourly shape curves, forward curves and seasonal adjustments
- Build and maintain models using Excel, Python and SQL
- Contribute to dashboards and reporting in Power BI or Tableau
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, applied mathematics, finance, economics, statistics or a related quantitative field
- Two to six years of relevant industry experience in energy modeling, risk analytics or quantitative valuation
- Understanding of power and natural gas markets, including heat rates, dispatch, basis and transportation
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Experience applying and explaining probabilistic methodologies
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings for nontechnical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, build tools from the ground up and operate effectively with incomplete data
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, NYISO or ISO-NE
- Natural gas hedging and renewable energy experience
- Familiarity with MATLAB, R, @Risk, CQuant or similar tools
- Exposure to PPAs, tolling agreements or structured transactions
- BESS modeling experience
- Experience with Power BI or Tableau
