Sabre Systems is currently recruiting for a Journeyman Systems Engineer to support the Navy’s Aerial Targets Program Office (PMA-208) at NAS Patuxent River in Lexington Park, MD. PMA-208’s mission is to advance the Navy’s combat readiness by delivering next-generation threat-representative targets. This candidate will support the BQM-177A Subsonic Aerial Target, which are reusable targets designed to emulate subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles in support of Developmental Test/Operational Test of major DoD weapon systems as well as for fleet training events. The BQM-177A target, an ACAT IVM program, is currently in production. The BQM-177A systems engineer leads the technical assessment of production deliveries, executes software and hardware improvement ECPs to the target system, as well as perform sustainment activities such as Reliability & Maintainability metrics and Engineering Investigations.
The selected candidate will be responsible and accountable to manage engineering and technical efforts, including but not limited to:
- Providing technical guidance and decisions regarding production and upgrades to the platform, unique threat payloads, close coordination with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), sub-system suppliers and government entities within NAVAIR (NAWCAD, NAWCWD China Lake and Pt. Mugu) and external to NAVAIR.
- Leading the team on technical projects, Engineering Investigations, etc. to resolve issues and determine solutions for fielded systems, including contractor and USG Non-Recurring Engineering efforts.
- Generating and releasing Interim Flight Clearances (IFCs) in support of Test & Evaluation and fleet customer operations at multiple sites.
- Performing Requirements Management, including system specification revision and subsystem specification development.
- Developing Statements of Work and contract data requirements, performing Proposal Technical Evaluations in support of program execution (as allowable for CSS).
- Managing system interfaces and coordinate configuration requirements.
- Preparing for and executing Technical Reviews and Interchange Meetings; supporting Program Management Reviews.
- Preparing and releasing operator’s manuals and their supporting data packages.
- Leading BQM-177 program risk management, mitigation and reporting via the NAVAIR ISEEv2 tool.
- Providing engineering analysis to support technical and financial proposals for engineering change proposals (ECPs) for new and upgraded systems.
- Providing technical plans in support of POM issue sheets.
Work location: local hybrid, on-site NAS Pax and U.S. Government facilities where access to SIPR spaces as required.
Travel requirements are approximately 1 to 2 weeks per quarter.
No prior Aerial Target experience necessary; this is an opportunity for motivated engineers to gain exposure and collaborate with Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, and external agencies as well as working several efforts across various acquisition timelines.
Requirements
- Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical field or scientific field from an accredited college or university
- Must have seven (7) years of general engineering experience.
- At least two (2) years of recent and relevant systems engineering experience
- An understanding of core systems concepts (ECPs, flight clearance process, general system safety products, general software development process, risk management, requirements management, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required.
- Must have strong communication skills and possess some technical writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
- Must be a US Citizen
- Prior aerial target experience not required. PMA-208 will provide aerial targets familiarization.
Benefits & conditions
At Sabre Systems, LLC, compensation is based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, and contract-specific requirements; however, final compensation will be determined by individual qualifications and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $130,577.00 - $144,991.00
