Job description

This position is part-time 20hrs, 2-10hr shifts, M-FUnder the supervision and direction of the APP director, collaborating physician and Sr. Administrative Manager, and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing Nurse Practitioner (NP) practice, the NP will support the Division of Breast Surgery in the MGB Cancer Institute.In the breast surgical oncology practice, the APP will provide comprehensive health care for women with breast disorders and the work will include follow-up of patients with breast cancer and benign disease. The APP will also coordinate and assist in assessment and management of patients including pre- and post-operative assessments, minor procedures such as incision and drains and cyst aspirations, triage urgent appointments, coordinate tests and consultations, implement treatment plans, communicate with collaborating physicians, and perform patient education.The APP will promote a collaborative relationship and effort between the patient and surgical oncology teams, including other clinicians, medical assistants, and support staff. The APP provides clinical care, effectively communicates with patients, families, providers, and staff. The APP is expected to participates in projects, programs, and other activities to support clinical practice and practice operations. They should maintain necessary licensure and completes continuing education to ensure performance of all responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have, * * Qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac life support standards as established by the American Heart AssociationThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and conducting ongoing evaluations.Does this position require Patient Care? YesEssential Functions-Provides direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings. -Performs complete histories and physical examinations. -Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. -Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. -Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries. -Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population. -Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.

Requirements

    • 3-5 years’ experience in the Advanced Practice role preferred, particularly in either breast oncology, general surgery or plastic and reconstructive surgery arena.
    • Must be a highly motivated individual who will work in a collaborative manner with physicians and other clinicians
    • Demonstrated skills in delivering direct patient care at the advanced practice level, performing both collaboratively and independently.
    • Broad clinical understanding of outpatient clinical care, including the ability to diagnose and treat health problems; obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations, perform simple diagnostic tests / procedures and prescribe medications.
    • Able to identify and solve routine and complex clinical care matters.
    • Maturity, self-confidence, and ability to support the management of patients across more than one discipline, specifically plastic surgery and surgical oncology.
    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively and complete tasks; flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with good command of English language, including medical and scientific terminology.
  • Able to effectively communicate clinical information to patients and family members.
    • Knowledge and compliance with all hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital Policy and procedures (where applicable to the performance of the job), JCAHO and HIPAA.Education/Degree:
    • Master’s degree or higher in Nursing as an APRN (either DNP or NP) or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies requiredLicensure, Certifications, or Registration:
    • Current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Licensure in Massachusetts
