Database Architect

The Database Architect - DOT Apps is a senior-level role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-class Oracle database solutions both on-premises and in the cloud. This position involves creating automated ETL processes, dimensional modeling, and serving as a technical mentor while collaborating with various IT teams and stakeholders. The role primarily supports the Maine Department of Transportation s data modernization and system migration initiatives, working mostly remotely with occasional onsite presence in Augusta, ME. Responsibilities:

• Design and implement enterprise-class data repositories using Oracle on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Develop fully automated ETL processes from diverse data sources including flat files and databases.
• Utilize API calls for automated data refreshes.
• Develop complex SQL and PL/SQL procedures, functions, views, and scripts.
• Perform dimensional modeling and develop tabular data models.
• Create architectural diagrams, system documentation, and metadata.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert and trusted technical advisor on Oracle technologies.
• Mentor senior and junior IT staff and provide technical training.
• Research and resolve database issues and maintain automated database processes.
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, DBAs, IT vendors, leadership, and business partners.
• Support system migrations, expansions, and data modernization efforts.

• Bachelor s degree in a related field.
• Significant senior DBA-level experience with Oracle on-premises and cloud-hosted databases.
• Expertise in SQL, PL/SQL, and developing complex database scripts.
• Proven experience in developing automated ETL processes.
• Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling and tabular data models.
• Experience with Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC).
• Ability to capture complex business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Demonstrated disciplined approach to coding standards, documentation, and error logging.
• Eligibility to work in the New England area, with ability to attend monthly onsite meetings in Augusta, ME.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience developing architectural diagrams and technical training materials.
• Proven ability to independently research and implement evolving technical solutions.
• Prior experience mentoring IT staff at various levels.

• Majority remote work with required onsite presence one day per month in Augusta, Maine.
• Candidates must be located in the New England area.

Scheduling:

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
• Standard business hours with limited day-to-day oversight.
• Position duration from September 28, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
