Job description

The IT Infrastructure Engineer designs, implements, and supports Enstructure’s hybrid infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments, with equal emphasis on Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization and Amazon Web Services. Based in Houston, this role pairs infrastructure engineering with hands-on onsite Helpdesk support for local users - a strong fit for an engineer who values both project ownership and direct user impact., * Manage network components including firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and VPNs. Heavy emphasis is on Cisco / Meraki hardware.

  • Design, implement, monitor, and support hybrid infrastructure services across Microsoft Hyper-V and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Administer Hyper-V hosts, clustered virtual machines, and cross-site replication, including both Windows Server and Linux guest workloads.

  • Build, migrate, and manage AWS workloads, including EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and related services.

  • Maintain backup and disaster recovery systems; validate restores and document recovery procedures.

  • When needed, perform hands-on installation of network gear such as firewalls, switches, WiFi Access Points, and surveillance cameras.

  • Participate in change management, infrastructure documentation, and deployment planning.

  • Apply and enforce security best practices across servers, endpoints, and cloud resources.

  • Recommend improvements to scalability, redundancy, and resilience as the terminal network grows.

  • Serve as Tier 2/3 escalation and provide onsite Helpdesk support for users at the Houston site.

  • Travel to other locations as needed (~10%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3-5 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering and systems administration.

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and Meraki network hardware.

  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Hyper-V, including clustering, live migration, and replication.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, RDS, S3, and VPC networking.

  • Proficiency administering both Windows Server and Linux, including patching, hardening, and scripting.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, and Intune.

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, VPNs).

  • Familiarity with enterprise backup and disaster recovery concepts and tooling.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to support end users professionally and promptly.

  • Ability to carry infrastructure projects from design through implementation with limited oversight.

  • Ability to lift and install network gear, including cabling and other related low voltage work.
