Job description
The Product Owner is the single point of accountability for maximizing the value delivered by the Scrum team. This role serves as the voice of the customer and business within the team, translating product strategy and stakeholder needs into a clearly prioritized backlog. At AssistRx, the Product Owner works closely with client-facing teams, pharma customers, and engineering to ensure each sprint delivers measurable value toward the specialty pharmacy platform. The Product Owner is distinct from the Product Manager: the PM owns the strategic ‘why’ and the roadmap; the PO owns the sprint-level ‘what’ and ensures the team always has clear, ready-to-execute work. These roles are not interchangeable and are not combined at AssistRx’s current scale. Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring items are clearly defined, prioritized, and ready for sprint planning; maintain at least two sprints of groomed work at all times
- Own and manage the product backlog: define epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics
- Ensure engineering teams have clear requirements and context to deliver high-quality releases; no story over 8 points enters a sprint without being decomposed
- Write user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria that reflect business requirements and customer needs
- Make real-time prioritization decisions during the sprint, balancing customer urgency, technical debt, and strategic objectives
- Participate in all Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Accept or reject completed work based on acceptance criteria and definition of done
- Collaborate with the Product Manager to translate the product roadmap into executable backlog items
- Engage with internal stakeholders, client services, and pharma customers to gather requirements and validate solutions
- Partner with the Tech Lead to assess technical feasibility, identify dependencies, and manage scope
- Own and maintain parameter documentation in Confluence, defining what the platform does and what delivery teams can configure without engineering involvement
- Communicate sprint goals, progress, and release plans to stakeholders transparently; own status updates back to requestors
- Track product performance, adoption, and feedback to inform continuous improvement
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner or similar role in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Strong understanding of Agile principles, Scrum framework, and backlog management tools (Jira, Azure Dev

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate between technical and business audiences
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification preferred
- Familiarity with CRM platforms (Salesforce), data integration, or pharmacy workflow systems is a plus
- For net new product development: more technical expertise is required; PO bootcamp completion mandatory before go-live
