Job description

Blu Omega is seeking a COBOL Developer to support a federal program focused on debt management. This role operates within a remote environment and is responsible for supporting legacy mainframe systems, including COBOL, CICS, VSAM, and JCL. The position requires experience supporting mainframe applications and modernization efforts within a mission-driven environment., * Maintain VSAM files and associated alternate key indexes

  • Support current CARS batch job streams and troubleshoot file transfer issues involving SFTP, FTPS, and Connect-Direct
  • Troubleshoot ETL load issues for data from external partners and assist in refactoring nightly ETL processes for robustness and automation
  • Support refactoring of batch processes into discrete transactions for real-time updates and API integration
  • Collaborate with mainframe developers and operators to maintain CARS and CAROLS systems
  • Modify and enhance CICS Transaction Gateway, z/OS Connect, and other real-time APIs for data access and updates
  • Analyze COBOL and JCL to document business rules and refactor code to incorporate new or altered rules

Requirements

Do you have experience in Systems & applications support?, Work Authorization: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability determination, * Proven experience as a Mainframe Senior COBOL Developer supporting federal or similar environments

  • Knowledge of COBOL, CICS, VSAM, and JCL
  • Experience troubleshooting file transfer and ETL load issues
  • Ability to analyze and refactor legacy code to support modernization efforts
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, * VA or other Federal Government experience
  • Familiarity with APIs (REST, RPC)
  • Knowledge of CTG and z/OS Connect
  • Experience with Agile frameworks and regression testing
  • CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO 9001:2015, or ITIL experience is a plus
